Two Appointments Made and Then With-

L ?' V " al,aCC and Co! - Beverly
Tucker to go to Hayti with „ roving

purpose except to exploit Secretary
Blames peculiar policy i„ the West
dies. The appointments were duly

IU.A1NF. STIRRED UP.
Blaine is in a state of mind in con
sequence. The Haytian commission
scheme is a little plan of his own. He
takes up the lines of his foreign policy
just where he laid them down in 1881,
and promises at the first opportunity
. to put his finger in the West Indian
pie. He talked it over with his friends,
but apparently said little or nothing
about it to the President until to-day.
Consequently the President seems to
have acted in haste and ignorance.
CONCLUSIVE PROOF.'
His agreeing to send Beverly Tuck
er as one of the commissioners, seems
conclusive proof of this to prominent
republicans, all of whom seen to-night
said that it was incredible that a man
with Tucker’s record during the war
should have been appointed by any
President to any office. “Why,” said
one “this is ten times worse than Sec
retary Endicott’s advice to President
Cleveland to return'the ‘rebel flags.’
If President Cleveland had done this
he could not have been renominated.”
No official information as to the next
step to be taken has as yet been
vouchsafed. The whole scheme may
be postponed indefinitely, or post
poned simply until a successor to
Tucker can be secured.
Young Man (to waiter)—“Waiter,
1 want some roast turkey. Give me
the outside slice off the breast, a nice
large piece of the liver, and as I am
hungry you might bring me both sec
ond joints.” Waiter—"Yes, sir; any
thing else?” Young man (contem
platively)—“Yes, there is something
more I i itended to order. Let—me
see—” Waiter—"I guess it must be
the earth. How’ll you have it cook
ed?”
“Well,” remarked Tripper, "I have
heard of crushed strawberry,elephant’s
breath, ashes of roses, whipped cream,
and other queer names of colors, but
this new shade has the worst name I
ever heard of.” “What is it ?” asked
Briggs. “It is called -slapped baby.’
Wonder what kind of shade that is? ’
"I should think,” replied Briggs, who
has had experience, “that it was a
decided yeller.”
Parson—“And how did you like
my sermon t"
"New Comer—“HCmc parts of it I
liked very much.”
“For instance?”
“Well, where you started off. with
blessed arc the pure in heart, and a
lot of other blessed?.”
“Oh, that was my text!”
“H’m! I think, on the whole, I
like the part you call your text better
than what you call your sermon. Why
don’t you make your texts longer ?”
A young man in a railway carriage
was making fun of a lady’s hat to an
elderly gentleman on the scat with
him. “Yes,” Said the elderly gentle
man, “that’s my wife, and I told her
if she wore that bonnet some fcol
would make fun ot it.” The young
man was silent for the remainder of
the journey.

Poor, unfortunate natrachian! In what a
sad plight he must have been. And yet his
misfortune was one that often befalls singers.
Many a once tuneful voice among those who
belong to the “ genus homo M is utterly spoiled
by ‘’cold in the head,” or on the lungs, or both
combined. For the above mentioned “ croak
er” we arc not. aware that any remedy was
ever devised; but we rejoice to know that all
human singers may keep their heads clear and
throats in tune by the timely use of Dr. Sage’s
Catarrh Remedy nnd Dr. Pierce’s Golden Med
ical Discovery, both of which are sold by
druggists.
Dr. Sage’s Catarrh Remedy cures the worst
cases of Catarrh in the Head, no matter of
how long standing, while for nil laryngeal,
bronchial, throat anil lung affections, Dr.
Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery is posi
tively unequaled. D eures tho worst linger
ing coughs and builds up the flesh nnd
strength of those who have been reduced
by wasting diseases. It is guaranteed to
benefit or euro in nil diseases for which it is
recommended, if taken in time and given a
fair trial, or money paid for it refunded.
