Wilson, of Baltimore, is at the Stuart. Mr. E. W. I’arnell, of Philadelphia, is among ihe guests at the Stuart. The blue flag, signal of rain, still waves from the signal acrvicc pole. Mrs. L. M. Griffin, of Bainbridgc, is visiting her son, Mr. C. It. Griffin. Miss Lula Stuart has returned from a. visit to friends in Valdosta. Hon. Robert Alexander went down to Quitman last night. The Whiddon registered thirty- seven arrivals Friday. Sir. B. H. Hodges, of White Sul phur Springs, Fla., is in the city. He is a guest ot the Whiddon. Passongers say that Sandy Prcvatt has the prettiest field of corn between tliis place and Monticello. Messrs. J. L. & W. A. Pringle had the first cantaloupes of the season on sale yesterday. Mr. R. M. Mixon, of the Louisville and Nashville Ry., was in the city yesterday. The Savaunan train was an hour late yesterday It did not wait for dinner. Miss Irene Wiggins, of Fort Valley, is visiting the family of Mr. Arthur Palen. County court was in session yester day morning. Only one case was before his honor Judge Mitchell. Hon. Ben FVRusscll, of Baiubridge, passed a few hours in the city yester day forenoon, eu route to Waycross. The programme of commencement exorcises at South Georgia College, which we publish this morning, is a very attractive one. The usual Sabbath services in the Baptist church will not be hold to-day. Rev. W. J. Williams, the pastor, goes to Quitman to ass : st in services there. Miss Addic McClellan, Jackson street, has all the illustrated papers for the week. The Johustc-wn disaster still has the place of honor in them. Mr. Thomas M. Allen is registered at the Stuart, Mr. Allen will remain over until Monday, He is always a welcome visitor to Thomasville. Rev. S. S. Broadenex, colored, of Atlanta, has been called to the pas torate of the First African Baptist Church, in this placo. He has ontered upon the discharge of his duties. We learn that arrangements are being made to run an excursion train from this city to Bainbridgc on the Fourth of July to the veteran’s re union. Javus Bell, colored, left yesterday for the White Mountains of N. H., where he has a place for the season. Thomasville is furnishing an army of waiters up North, during the summer. And every one of them talks up for Thomasville. M iss Irene Fisher leaves to-morrow for Savannah, where she takes Tues day’s steamer for New York. She will spend several weeks North and her friends wish her a pleasant out ing. A colored oxcursion train, composed of twelve coaches, passed through the city yesterday apout. 10 o’clock. Con ductor Paramore was in charge. A good crowd from here joined them. They returned from Albany last night. This was the longest excursion train of the summer. Mr. J. E. Henderson, of the Em ployers Mutual Relief Association, is in the city, working up the Tyhee Island excursion. Connecticut Industrial School, The closing exercises of this school are appointed for Tuesday, 25th inst, in the colored Baptist church in this city. The attendance for the closing term has been large, 300 pupils hav ing been enrolled in the various de partments. The industrial class proper, has made 285 garments, of which number 35 were dresses. The pastors of tho various churches in the city have very considerately forgone services to-day, and all the congregations will attend and hear the commencement, sermon to be preached by Dr. Smith in the clmpel of So. Ga. college. Dr. Smith lias a splendid reputation us a pulpit orator and ought to and doubtless will ha'vo a large audience. The chapel is well Ventilated and will be cool and com fortable. Miss Fannie Everitt loft last night for a visit to friends in Brunswick. She will lie absent a couple of weeks. There will he no services at the Baptist church this morning and evoniug. Mrs. AVilliam Buttolph left yester day morning for a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Peabody, nt Co lumbus, Mr. W. J. Daniel, a prominent warehouse-man, of Marianna, Fla., is spending a few days at the country home of Mr. James 8. Smith. Contractor Eaves began work Thursday on Hon. A. T. McIntyre, Jr.’s, new residence on the McIntyre road, a little beyond the cottage of Rev, J, H. Herbcner, There is aa unusually large speci men of a rose at the store of Miss Laura Jones. It has been pressed. The flower was sent to Miss Laura from British Columbia, by Mrs. J. C. Peters. The specimen ia known as the Paulncron rose. The cornice pieces and head piece of Dckle & Cooke’s new store have been finished and placed in position. Tho work was done by the South Georgia Metal Works, of which B, W. Green is superintendent. We received a call yesterday morn ing from Col. A. K. Whitfield, of Cai- The Col. is looking wei.', and while hp reports the blackberry crop badly cut short by the late lack of rain, he is certain that in Decatur half a bale to the mule will be harvested. With the exception of Ben Russell, Col. Whitfield is the best blackberry au thority in existaece. By the Band. The Eclipse Band, of Boston, will attend the commencement exercises of South Georgia College. In speak ing of it the World says: Thi3 is one of the finest ametcur bands in Georgia, and we can assure the people of Thomasville that they will he treated to some excellent mu- We know the hoys will have a jolly good time, as the people of our sister city know how to entertain their guests. Mr. durance Lloyd, will leave on Monday for New York. From there he sails for Europe nextj week. He will take in the Paris Exposition, visit London and the principal points of interest on the Continent. He goes equipped with a supply of Thomas- ville pamphlets. Ho will leave one of them on top of the Eiffel fbwer. Mr. Lloyd’s Thomasville friends will join us, heartily, in wishing for him a pleasant summer in the old World, and a safe return to Thomasville when the “leaves begin to turn” again. Mr. I'M J. McKee, of McRce, Ga., passed through the city yesterday on route to Monte/.uma, after a couple of prisoners, who will' he put to work at his father’s convict camp in Lowndes county. Attention is called to the notico the that 'Mr. George Fcarn will sell a lot of fruit evaporators at auction Saturday July 6th. The fruit scasonis on us and there is no better way to dispose of the surplus than evaporating it. Att- nd the sale. , At the Methodist Church. Dr. T. E. Smilh, who preaches the commencement sermon at South Geor gia college this morning, will preach at the Methodist church this evening at 8 o’clock. All the congregations will attend these service, as the pulpits of the other churches will not be filled. Editor Moody, of the Boston World, was in town yesterday. Conductor Ward will spend Sunday at home. County court will be in session to morrow. Several cases are on docket. Miss Nettie Rudd, of Monticello, spent last night in the city, the guest of the,Willows. Mr. J. O. Lewis, conductor on the A. P. & L. Ry., and family, arrived last night, and are the guests of Mr. Arthur Pinson and family. Mr. Tliad Reese returned last night from Buena Vista and Amcricus. Col. A. T. McIntyre returned last night from the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the State University, at Athens. More ruin. Mr. Ileppic, who formerly kept a restaurant here, has located in Boston. Go to the South Georgia College this morning and hear the commence ment sermon. Miss India Hunter, of Joneslwr arrived yesterday afternoon, and w bo the guest of her sister, Mrs. Love Wilder, at the Stuart, for sometime. Rev. T. E. Smith, of Cedar Keys, Fla., nnivecj yesterday, and is the guests of Mr. Samuel J. Casscls. Mr. Smith and Mr. Casscls were at col lege together. Patronize Home industries.
