Weems’ Marvelous Motor. For some months paragraphs have appealed, now and then in the news papers, concerning a new railroad system by which mails and light mat ter may be transported with a speed much greater than any yet attained by steam cars, and it was announced the other day that arra ngcmcnls were being made to put the system into operation. The inventor is Mr. David G. Weems, of Daltimore, and the motive power is electricity. About - 150patents have been taken out in the United States and in the other principal countries of the world, cov ering the vital points of the system, and among them is one for a principle intended to make it impossible for trains to jump the track, however great the speed may he. The road, at Thun.ho clasped lu r with emotion, Drew the iiiiii«l«*n to his breast, Whispered vows of truo devotion, The old, old tale,-you know the rest. From his circled arms unspringing, With a tear she turned awnv, And her voice with sorrow ringing, “I shall not see my bridal day. This dramatic speech broke him up badly ” . i ..I But when eho explained tlmt her npprehen- Jl rule, Will 1)C bllllt OU the SIt 1 (flee 01 gjons were founded on the fact of an inher- lhc ground, and will have a gunge of twenty-four inches, hut in populous districts it will be elevated if thought desirable. The cost of construction will be about $5,000 a mile. All trains will be operated from generat ing stations, about 100 miles apart, and there arc means by which the operators aro posted concerning the exact position of each train, from the time it leaves one station until it reaches another. A feature of the system is that no attendants arc need ed upon the trains. For the last year repeated experi ments of flic system have been made at Laurel, -Aid. The experimental road is a circuit of two miles, with twenty-nine changes of grade, some of which arc very heavy. From the tests made, it is thought that the train can be mil on a level track at the rate of three miles a minute, 180 miles an hour. It the Weems system can be put in to successful operation. it will bring about a revolution in railroad matters. Fcoplc who have witnessed the trials at Laura! arc confident that it will he a success. “In Dis Yere Sin-cussed Worl’.” Arkansas- Traveler. The mayor of Louisville, upon meeting an old negro, drew him aside, and, in a voice by no means gentle, thus addressed him: “Randsom, I am going to have you arrested.” “How come dat ?” “Why, for having obtained money under false pretences.” “I ain’t done nothin’ like dat, sali; I ’clar’ ter goodness I ain’t.” “Didn’t you come to me yesterday and get a dollar ?” “Yes, sah.” “And didn’t you say it was to pay the funeral expenses of your son ?” "Yes, sah.” . “Well, but, you trifling scoundrel, I saw your son on the street just now.” “Hah?*- “You know what I said.” “Yas, sah; yas, but I didn’t tell you de boy wur. dead, did I ?” “Didn’t tell me he was dead!
