THE CROPS OF GEORGIA. What the Commissioner of Agriculture Says About Them. Atlanta, Aug. 6.—Commissioner Henderson lias issued the following bulletin regarding the condition of crops at the present da'c: The seasons since July i have been all that could be desired in nearly every section of the state. In some counties rains have been excessive but only a lew cases of actual injury to crops have been reported CQXTOX. The condition of the cotton crop has steadily advanced since the date ol July r, and has become more nearly uniform in the different sections of the state. The condition in those counties in which it was lowest a month ago has very greatly improved, while in those reporting very high condi tion then, the reports are more sober and the estimates somewhat lower. It is generally true that both high “If a woman is pretty. To mo ’tis no matter, Ho ptio Monde or brunette. So cho lets me look at her." IM P ORTANT -TO PEAR GROWERS & SHIPPERS. The peculiar diseases to which bo many of the box are subject, are prolific causes of pale sallow faces, blotched with un sightly pimples, dull, lustreless eyes and ema ciated forms. Women so afilteted, can be per manently cured by using Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription; and with tho restoration of health comes that beauty which, combined with good qualities of head and heart, makes women angels of loveliness. “ Favorite Prescription ” I ■■imn ■ iivyii lifl the only medicine for 8 WARRANTFll I women, sold by druggists, fi nunnuniLu. | 11Ildor R P o«m - ■ i in guarantee from ivc satisfaction cry case, or money will do refunded. One month ago the general average con dition for the entire state was 8-'!; the average now (Aug. 1) is 90—7 points higher. On Aug. I, 1888, the condi tion was NO— 1 point lower. The improvement in the condition of the cotton crop is due, of course, to the general prevalence of good sea' sous—plenty of rain and sun heat, with warm nights. The rains are now excessive, and it is now appro headed that a severe drought will occur during August, which would prove very damaging, owing to the succulent condition of the plants. CORN AND OTHER CROPS. The corn crop promises the la r gcst yield within ten years past. The droughts that occurred in April and May have been relieved by copious general rains in good time to enable the crop to recover. Farmers arc enthusiastic over the bright promises of a rich harvest. The same remarks will apply with more or less force to all the minor crops cultivated. A glance at die tabular report which follows will show that every crop, without exception, has made a mate rial advance in condition. Corn, lrom 90 to 101; rice ,from 90 to 94; sugar cane, from S7 lo 94 ; sweet po tatoes, from 70 to 92. Melons have not yielded as large profits ns last year, the reports show ing 91 as compared with those of the same date in 1888. VKAC.IIiS AND DRAPES. The promised yield of these two fruit crops of one and two months ago has been even more than realized, especially of peaches- The yield both in quantity and quality, has probably never been equaled in the history ol the state, and the profits have been exceedingly satisfactory. It is said that the mayor ot Tacoma, Washington territory, has written to the Mayor of Boston, to send out all the marriageable women who arc will ing to go out and become the wives of men of Washington, and the prospect is that the supply will be equal to the demand.— Ex.
