The Question Finally Solved.
One oiten wonders why such a large
number of idlers always surrounds any
excavation or new building in the cen
tral part of the city, but an explanation
given'by one yesterday sheds some
light on the mystery. A man who sat
on a block of stone, carefully watching
the work on a nine story building, at
traded the attention ot one of the
bosses, who said:
“I’ve seen you around heic most of
the time lor the past two months.”
“Yes.”
“Are you drawing wages?”
“Oh, no.”
“Ie it a relative ol yours who
building?”
“No.”
“Going to rent it when finished?”
“No.”
“Getting points on architecture?”
“No.”
1 “Well, then, what brings you here!”
“Well, I’ll tell you. It struck me
that you were not making that from
door wide enough by an inch and a
half, and I've been sitting arou d to
see whether I was wrong, or you meant
to change it.”
“That door is all right, sir, and will
not be changed.”
"Is it? Then thero is no longer
any need of my presence, and I’ll move
up-street, and see if they carry the
walls ot that new store up plumb.”—

A Dull Week For News.
“You must excuse rne for my lack ot
interest this week,” writes the Dry
Forks correspondent, addressing the
editor of the county paper. He then
gives the following paragraphs':
Rain.
Picnic Wednesday.
Preaching at Round Pond Sunday.
During the services Zeb Phillips drop
ped his pistol on the floor. It went off
and killed him.
Wheat didn’t turn out so mighty
well.
Chicken cholera.
Measles.
Whooping cough.
Old man Blue and his wife have
parted.
Tobe Walker k lied a coon.
Mat Morris shot himself on Friday.
He would have left a wife to mourn
his loss, but shewed last summer.
The Old Marfstill Lives.
Mr. Micajah Owens, .who lives
about five miles from town, near
King’s Crossing, walked to town last
Monday. This may not seem worthy
of mention, but when it is known that
Mr. Jenkins is in his 100th year, it will
look different. We are informed that
he will be ioo years old on Jan. 4th,
1890. He walked about the streets
and conversed freely with those he
met.
It has been only about three years
since this old gentleman walked to
Hawkinsville from where he lives, a
distance of about twenty-eight miles
He seems to have a dislike to horses
as he walks almost everywhere he goes
We are told that he had never rid
den on the cars, before the A., P. & L.
road was built, and that he was pleased
with his first ride.
Mr.- Owens has lived in Wilcox
county about seventy five years, where
he raised a large tamily. We are in
formed that his children, grand child-
dren and great-grand children (a good
many of the latter being grown), num
ber nearly throe hundred, many of
whom are among the best citizens ol
this county.—Rochelle Register.

permitted yourself to harbor or to

“Er—what? I don’t understand.’
(To the court)—"Your honor, I
challenge this juror for cause. He is
evidently an impostor.”
“If a woman ta pretty.
