THE ARIZONA KICKER. Business Sill Going On at the Old Stand. We extract the following from the last issue of the Arizona Kicker: Don’t Bi.ame Him.—I.ast 'Iuesilay night the city treasurer of this town jumped out with all the public moneys he could lay hands on. The aggre gate sum was only $65, but no one should blame him for skipping out with that small sum. It was all he could get. and he had become so dis gusted at having to associate with the members of the common couc.il that he would probably have gone with only $*S- Fun Ahead.—Aid. O’Grady did nt take our remarks last week in the the right spirit. We called him a liar, thief and drunkard, and instead of ad mitting the charge like a gentleman, he indulges in threats of personal vio lence. Qeme, on Mr. O’Grady, We’ll tty and make it lively for you. And, by the way, while on this sub ject, we feel to observe that of all the corrupt, dishonest, knavish, drunken public bodies ever convened in a room together, our town council caps the climax. Next week we shall begin a war of extermination on these vipers, and if the fur don’t fly it won’t be our fault. A Novelty.—We learn that Mr. James Shields, of o ma ' ia ’ :1,as P ur ' chased a lot on Apache avenue and intends to build and open a hardware store. This will be a novelty. Not that we haven’t a hardware store in town, but the idea of a man opening a store here instead of a saloon will strike our people queerly. The saloon in terest needntt be alarmed, however. We know of at least six new ones which will be opened this fall to help control the coming political campaign It .Can’t Be Done Now.—For a year or more after we struck this town, we could be kicked and cuffed with per fect impunity, even by a low-down Indian. We were knocked down, booted up and down the street, and had our nose pulled out of shape two or three times per week, and we never thought of rcsisisting. We were a tenderfoot of the tendertootedestkind, and it was 0 question whether we would pull through or not. Let some one attempt to pull our nose to day! The offer of a hundred dollars in cash would’nt tempt a man in town to try it on. We arc no long er a tenderfoot. The man who sets out to ‘ lift” us has got to beat chain lightning. Every chap who has piled onto us for the last ten months has had to be carried off on a shutter, and two of them, as the town records show, sleep peacfully among the dai sies. It Melted Us.—It is well known oil over town, that we have held mortgage for the last three months on the entire outfit of our contemporary It covers everything but his own worth less carcass, and can be foreclosed at any moment. This being the case, we are often asked why we do not take possession when that blotch on jour nalism refers to us in such endearing terms as “jackass,’ - “liar,” hypocrite,’, and so forth. We did go over one day last week, calculating to turn him out on the sand hills but he fell to weeping and melted us. While it seems hard for a man to be abused by his own proper ty, we haven’t the heart to kick away the barrel. And besides, he runs such an abject apology for a weekly news paper, that the Kicker receives hosts of compliments by comparison. We are not going to be mean with him— not unless he quits abusing us and tries to publish a good newspaper. A New Departmet. —As will be noticed by all our subscribers, we add a new department to the our paper, this week—that of forecasting the weather. We have arranged a signal station on the roof of our own build ing and shall take observations hourly. We liaye also purchased a map of the United States, and have arranged a a amnie by which we expect nine- sof our predictions to be verified. This has been a long-felt want in this locality, and our enterprise will no doubt be duly appreciated. We shall start out at a slow pace and do no rushing until the harness fits well. Our first prediction: “Clearer, warmer, cloudy, cool; may rain and may not;” is a sort of a feeler, and we do not advise any of our readers to S 've tip a fishing excursion or a Sun- ly school picnic on account of it. We hope in time to get used to the hang of the thing, and after we have, we will guarantee to beat the govern ment out of sight, or wear one shirt all winter Then ho rlnsporl her with emotion, Drew the maiden to his breast. Whispered \0\vr3 of true devotion. The old, old tale,—you know the rest. From his circled arms unspringinflr. With ft tear she turned away, And her voice with sorrow ringing, •• I shall not see my bridal day.’ This dramatic speech broko him up badly; but when site explained Hint her apprehen sions were founded on the fact of an inher ited predisposition to consumption in her family, he calmed her fears, bought a bottle of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery for her, and she is now the incarnation of health. Consumption fastens its hold upon its victims while they are unconscious of its approach. The "Golden Medical Discovery’’1ms cured thousands of cases of tins most ratal of mala dies.
