J. B. Foraker. The people have triumphed over fraud find corruptipn. The Republic still lives. Old Virginia nobly stood by her motto: Sick Semper Tyrannis, on Tuesday. The republicans heard something drop on Tuesday. And it was a dull, sickening thud—to them. ’Tis said that Harrison was disap pointed at the result in Virginia. Very likely. 60 was Mahone. And Iowa elects a democratic gov ernor. We arc prepared to expect anything now. • There is hope now for even the worst sinners. f Grand, glorious old Virginia, Geor gia greets you, and sends congratula tions on your splendid victory over Harrison, Blaine, Quay, Dudley, Boo dle & Co. And the south is still solid—solid for honest government and tariff re form. And she’ll be solid the next time you hear from her. Harrison has been in office a few months, and the people have spoken, saying, at the ballot bos, what they think of republican rule. And they spoke lond. The house and senate are at logger heads over the time for advertising tho lease of the state road. And the people and the legislature are at log gerheads about the time of adjourn ment. A very modest paragraph found its way into a Philadelphia republi can newspaper the other day. It contained tho statement that a col ored man had been ejected from a theatre in that ycity. Philadelphia is a republican stronghold, and with all the talk of the republicans of that city about the treatment of the col ored people, it would seem that the colored mau would hove been allow ed to remain in the theatre. But no! This talk is only for political effect. At least the republican or gans don’t caro a snap for the col ored people. PROF. E. D. These gives Boies a plurality of 13,- 090. The remaining thirty-two coun ties, in 1887, gave a republican plu rality of 11,298. On this basis Boies already has a plurality of 1,792 in sixty-seven counties, so that all gains in the remaining thirty-two counties will simply add to his plurality. If the same ratio of democratic gains continues through the thiry-two coun ties, Boies will have n plurality in the state of 8,000 to 10.00C. Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 6.—Tho pros pect of an immediate adjournment does not seem as bright as last night, but it is still believed that this week will see the last of the legislature. The conference committee did it. It might bo moro precise to charge it to the senate branch of it. The commit tee had two protracted sessious to-day and wrestled earnestly with the time question. The re sult of the day’s work was that the house, with a desire to harmonize, if possible, yielded four months in the time when bids should be submitted, going from February 15th to June 15th. Tho senate refused to concur, and the dead lock continues. I be gan to think so too, but decided to look over Mrs. Carroll’s stock, and was astonished to find that she wmld sell me this hat at $3, first price asked, nearly one-half less. . Mrs. M.—I have heard a number of ladies speak of her nice work and low prices, and this confirms it. She seems anxious for our patronage, too. Mrs. W.—Yes, I like that.
