Lucky Signal.
This handsome, thoroughbred Jersey
bull, owned by Mr. A. F. Prevatt, at
tracted considerable attention, and was
greatly admired by all lovers of fine
stock on the grounds, Friday. By
some oversight or neglect on the part
of his keeper, he was not taken to the
grounds until alter the committe had
handed in their report. Otherwise he
would haye been awarded a premium.
H Awarding the Prizes.
Mr. Editor—The festivities of
yesterday were brought to a fitting
close last evening at thoBtoartHouse,
where a gay throng had assembled to
witness the presentation of tho prizes
won in the tournament and the crown
ing of the Queen of Love and Beauty
add three Maids of Honor.
'Tie dining room was filled with a
splendid audience, beaming with ex
pectancy. The prizes wore arranged
on a large table, when T. N. Hopkins,
who had been selected as spokesman,
arose and discharged his delicate tn«k

kins was a most delicate and difficult
one, as it required the eloquence of

Friday night. The crowning of the
queen and maids of honor, and the
first german of the season, attracted

as queen ot love and beauty, .Mr.
Robert Evans crowned Miss Birdie
Woodson as first maid of honor. Mr.

Miss Mattie Davis as maids of honor,
-Dancing was kept up until ia o’
clock. Quite a large number of spec
tators, including a number ol tiortbern
ladies and gentlemen, were present.
The affair, (hough an impiomptu one,
was a perfect success and highly en
joyed by every one present.
The ladies wore handsome evening
costumes and looked charming—cf
course: they always do.. And the gen
tlemen; well, they were gallant and
paid homage throughout the evening
to the bright and pretty bevy of girls
who graced the occasion with their
smiles Evei y one voted the first ger
man of the season a decided success.

bright eyes and Sir Knights.

Dickinson and Miss EUa Stuart.

Sweepstake Shooting.
At the fair grounds yesterday room
ing the sweepstake shooting resulted
as follows:
In the first match, in which ten
straights were shot Judge Hopkins won
first by making the fine score ofbreak-
tng ten straights. Mr. Charley Davis
and Master Jimmie Hopkins tied for
second place. In the shoot off Hop
kins woo. Messrs. Lee and Varnadoe
tted for second. Lee won. The
second match was shot,-five doubles.
Mr. Whiddon won first and Lee took
second. Mr. Charley Davis, Judge
Hopkins, and Master Jim Hopkins
ued for third money. In the shoot off
Mr. Davis won. During the shooting
several scrub races were gotten up.

Two Nights of Comedy.
Two night9 of comedy is the pro
gramme at the opera house this week.
Wednesday night Murray and Murphy,
the popular Irish comedians, will hold
forth in "Our Irish Visitors," Thursday
night Miss Hettie Bernard Chase will
appear in her new comedy, "The Little
Coquette.” - Miss-'Chase is a new
comedienne in the south, though well
known and popular in the north and

Miss Sallie Lou Varnedoe, sponsor
of thti, Valdosta Videttes, with her
maids of honor, charmed every one.
Mieand Mrs. T. J. Ball, and Miss
Kate BaD, left yesterday for a visit to

has selected Thomasville as his home,
and solicits a share of practice from a
suffering public.
A new passenger train, commenc
ing this afternoon, will leave here at
4:50 p. m., and return next day at
11:25 a.m. The trainfor Albany in the
morning, leaves at 8:30, instead of
9:30. See change of schedule.
That was a thoughtful and graceful
thing on the part of the committee of
ex-Confederate veterans to supply all
ex-Union soldiers with badges. The
badges were very pretty, containing
the words:
