This is what’s puzzling Georgia politicians just now. Harrison’s message is said to be a disappointment. It has created no very favorable comments. And Harrison waved the bloody shirt in bis message. I or a little man lie waved it very vigorously. They are looking every day for Stanley to come out of the wilderness of central Africa. He been lost to the civilized world for two years. Mister Harrison, your federal elec tion law will not work in the South. And we’re very much mistaken if northern states are anxious to swallow the pill. President Harrison may not be a very great man, but if Gen. Geo. A. Sheridan is to be credited, he has done more than the Almighty ever did. ‘Tie has made a statesman out ot Mr. Hayes.” So says George A. —Ex. killed his keeper. A Tight Rope Walker Tumbles. Valdosta, Ga., Dee 3.—Miss 8 00 Annie Adair, a tight rope walker in the Holland & Gormley circus, which performed here to-day, fell from the rope while passing over the canvas. She caught on the tipper tier of seats after breaking through the canvas and escaped without serious injuries. little The Boston Globe says that the fol- >wing things, among others, havebeen jttled: That the tariff will be the great isue in 1892, that the next democratic andidate for President will be a man ritli an unimpeachable record ns a ariffreformer, that Benjamin flarri- on will not be renominated, and that he . south will remain solid. The Boston fire was a surprise in very way. ’The New York Coro- tercial Bulletin says: “Boston stood i the front rank of American cities, s far as well drawn building laws, ood fire department and substantial foldings are concerned, and few sec- ons ol our own dry goods district are s good risks from an insurance stand otnt as the part of Boston’s business istrict just swept by flames On the Brink of a Panic. During life the sponge is continually drawing water through its pores, and countless streams are constantly flow ing through the sponge, bringing in little particles of food and all the air needed to support it. There is an other element in this wonderful circu lation that should not be overlooked. Located in different parts of these pores are cup-shaped hollows, filled with threadlike substance, or “celia,” which are continually in motion and assist in keeping the water in circula tion. Everything that lives must breathe and eat, and it is one ot the curiosities of nature that an animai without a mouth or a stomach can eat and digest its food. The circulation of the water through the pores supplies oxygen for breathing at the same time that it brings little particles of food into con tact with other portions of the sponge When the food touches any portion of the body, the soft, jelly-like flesh !_ ered. Here it is held until the digest- j g ible portions are absorbed, when the . cr flesh resumes its original position. Killed by an Elephant. London, Dec. 3.—The St. James Gazette states that Mr. rarnell disap- peard several weeks ago, and since then has not been heard from. His whereabouts is a mystery, and his prolonged absence causes much trouble to his adherents. The Gazette says that though it has been Mr. Parnell’s custom occasionally to seclude him self, his period of retirement this time has been longer than usual. He lias even failed to keep a number of im portant engagements, one of which was to meet Mr. Gladstone. Earthquake Shocks. Dover, N. H., Dec. 3.—Early this morning the inhabitants ot Alton Bay- were awakened by an earthquake shock, which jarred houses. Many people rushed from their beds, crock ery and glassware were broken, and clocks were stopped. At 1:29 o’clock a second shock was more severe than the first. The people then rushed from their houses, expecting the struc tures would tumble down. The bell on the steamer Mt. Washington, in the middle of the hay, was rung. The shock was also felt at Alton and Gil ford, hut was not so severe. Macon's Strikers. Atlanta, Dec. 3.—Supt. Starr this morning appealed to the governor for assistance to prevent the Central R. R. strikers from interfering with trains just outside the city limits ol Macon. His dispatches stated that they were en deavoring, by violence, to keep freight trains from leaving the town. Pro tection was ample in the city, but the sheriff claimed that he had no power to act, and there was no protection at all outside.
