Although there is more money here than has been for many years, payment of taxes was very meagre. Mr. James Blackshear Sr t , has a very fine variety of short stapid cotton. His I son James sold tliree bales of this cotton to Mr. Harry Copeland, the lire mer chant of Metcalfe. Returns of thi» cot ton showed that one bale sold for thir teen cents a pound, and the other two bales far twelve and a half cents a pound. This was over a cent and a half a pound above the top market price for cotton on^thatday. The original seed came from Texas. The lint is unusually long^ soft and silky.
