Robert Dekle luplidjre Georgia Marshall Burney brought over from Boston yesterday an old veter an named George D. McCall. McCall has been running a flying Jenny In the Hub City and did not want to pay the regular license for such a calling because he was a veteran. Mayor Brantley said this would not do in this case and that the license money must bo forthcoming. Still It wasn’t and Marshal Burney was given the person o' Mr. McCall to keep in cus tody. Tito prisoner took a certiorari to the Superior Court and wanted to give bond for his appearance there. The bond was not acceptable to the* Boston government and they reduced it. The aged gentleman ihcn took out a writ of habeas corpus and it \ i^as sued yesterday before Judge Jones in Thomasvllle. The Jud closed the chapter by advising Mr. McCall that he must make his bend satisfactory to the mayor and mar shal. This was finally done, ho war. given his liberty. The case will bo oi considerable interest when It conies up for trial as showing the valid!ly of the “old soldiers li cense. “ All administrators, guardians and' executors not excused under £111, are required under the law to make re turns to the court of ordinary on the first Monday in July of each year Some of above classes named have failed to make returns when nlvlted to do sc.
