One of the most horrible of the many accidental deaths that have oc curred in Thomasville was that of a negro woman at the railroad cross- lug of the Atlantic Coast Line Rail way. She was trying to cross the railroad at the Stephens Street cross ing near that going toward Fletch- erville, at which there is a railroad gate. This gate at this time was not down, there being no attention paid to these gates at night. The old wo man was Martha Moore, a sister of Billy Moore, and well known to the people of this city as a respectable, hard working old woman. She was making an endeavor to cross at the time that train No. 85 approached with its big 3hinning elec tric headlight. This must have blinded her as sbe ran in frout of the train. It caught her as she was in the middle ef the track and hurled her some flfteeh feet down the em bankment at that junction of the street and railway. Death must hare been instantaneous. Mr. J. A. Epply of the water wroks saw the accident and is of the opin ion that the woman should not have BURGLARS STILL BUSY Tha Salter Fire Explain ed—One Captured But Escaped. One of the most peculiar and dar ing of the many robberies that are dally taking place in the city’ was that which occurred In Bast End Thursday night. Mrs. McAllister who lives on Colton avenue, spent the evening with friends across the street. During her absence, the house was entered and the most pecu liar stunts perpetrated that has come to notice. She had just baked a fruit cake and had it Iced ready for company expected during the holi days. This was devoured with the exception of the icing and a few scraps showing that there must have been several in the party. The lady of the house had fixed something in a pan for the house tabby cat and this was taken to an oil stove in the kitchen togother with about a dozen eggs and cooked in the utensils handy. After their feast the visitors decided that they would enjoy a smoke decently and in or der. They must have been just a lit tle careless with the matches for sev eral were seen strewn on the floor. When Mrs. McAllister went honvj tried to cross at this time, as the', F,,s wn8 unsuspecting of anything of train was so near. Whether she saw the train and tried to get across in spite of its near approach, or wheth er she could not seo or hear it, is a matter of conjecture. The Coroner, Mr. Chas. Gandy was of the opinion from the testimony of the eye wit ness that the case was not one tqr the summoning of a Jury and this was not done. LAMAR WILL RUN FOR SENATE Florida Congressman Out After Toga of Senator Mallory. The News comes from Montlcello that Congressman W. B. Lamar of that city will not be a candidate to succeed himself, but will go after the senatorial toga now worn by Scna- ator Mallory. The latter Is in ill health and will not seek re-election. Lamar has made a good record and Is allied with the nntl-corporation movement. His friends all over the state are actively at work in his be half. There will he threo candidates for the place now held by Lamar in the House. What Po They Cure? The above question is often asked con cerning Dr. Piercn’s two Inmilng medi cines, •'Golden Medical Discovery" and ■Favorite Prescription.” The* answer Is vlmt "Golden Modlcai Discovery " is a most potent alterative 01 blood-purl Her, and touic or invigorator and acts especially favorably in u cura tive way upon all tho mucous lining sur faces, as of tho nasal passages, throat bronchial tubes, stomach, bowels ano a per cent, of catar- ) disease a fleets the uterus or other pelvic organs. Lvcn ip the chronic or ulcerative stage* of the** affections, it la often aucceMful in affect ing cures. ^he" Favorite Prr-serlptlon " Is advised for the euro of one class of diseases—those peculiar weaknesses, derangements and irregularities incident to women only. It Is a powerful yet gently acting Invigorat ing tonic and norvlue. For weak worn- out, over-worked women—no matter what has.caused the break-down, "Favorite Prescription "will bo found most effective In building up the strength, regulating tho womanly functions, subduing pain and bringing about a healthy, vigorous condition of tho whole system. A book of particulars wraps each bottle giving the formulae of both medicines and quoting what scores of eminent med ical authors, whose works are consulted by physician* of all the schools of practice as guides in prescribing, say of each in gredient entering into these medicines. The words of praise bestowed on the eeveral ingredients entering into Doctor Piorce’s medicines by such writers should have more weight than any amount of bob - professional testimonials, because inch men are writing for the guidance of their medical brethren and know whereof BOthmedfrtnee are non-alcoholfc. non- secret, and contain no harmful habit forming drags, being composed of glyceric extracts ot the roots of native, American medicinal forest plants They are both •old by dealers in medicine. You canH afford to accept as a substitute for oneof these medicines of known composition, any secret nostrum. tliia kind, and made preparations to retire. She smelled something burnt lug and upon going Into the’kitchen found a chair upon which was laid a shawl and napkin burning. The mutches must have been thrown there carelessly with the above re sult. The whole bottom of the chair had been hurtled out and if the ftro hed not been discovered at this time the house would hafe been now a mass of ruins. It is thought by many that the homo of J. R. Salter, burned the night before, was fired In the same manner and It is very probable that the same parties did both deeds. One Burglar Captured hut Recap 1 '.. It seems that the young men of thnt part of town are determined to catch at leaBt some of the crime com mitting gentlemen, and with that end in view organized themselves and lay wait for any unwary tres passers. Mr. J. D. Smith, while go ing the rounds last night, saw one nogro enter the yard of Mr. Alex Miller. They Immediately repaired stealthily to the place and captured him. While In company with a friend taking the negro to the locks- up It soems that Mr. Pace his compan Ion went baW after a gun, there be ing but one between the two and Josh had that. While the other was away the negro attacked Josh, tooth and toe nail, hammer and tongs. Josh beat him over the head with the gun and bruised him up In several ways, but the man escaped. Josh did not fire on him. This Is the third serious affair In the $ast week besides the robbery of tho coops of many In that neighbor hood. Alderman J. M. Dekle was the last to suiter in that respect and four of his fine Plymouth Rock henB went toward the satisfying of some unworthy appetite. The Spellman Residence. Mr. Joseph Spellman, of Provi dence, R. I. has moved Into the new house recently built by him on Mal- lette Heights and will be In Thom- asrille for the winter.
