Sensational Show Down Plan
WINS THOUSANDS TO DODGE OVERNIGHT!
Can you imagine a car that sells it
‘self —and doubles its sales in city
after city—in the face of today’s stiff
competition?
. That’s what the new Dodge is do
“ing. Winning thousands of new
‘owners, by laying its cards on the
_table. Asking any other car in the
low price field to match it on the
open road, in traffic, and up hills.
Isn’t this the way an automobile
should be bought? On merit alone!
Don’t you want to buy a car on what
it actually does in your own hands?
Why gamble on words?
Accept Dodge’s Challenge
Go to your nearest Dodge dealer and
ask for the “Show-Down” plan and
‘scorz-card: Then go out and try to
ma¥ke any competitor’s car do what
‘the big new Dodge Six does soeasily.
% if it can stay anywhere near the
i on a hill. Try to make it ride
: fas smoothly, even over rough
_estroads. Try to make it flash ahead
~ in traffic, the way the Dodge does,

Fight With Baer
By EDWARD J. NEIL

ATLANTIC CITY, N. J—Down
deep inside, where private opin

Jack Dempsey has formed a firm
conviction as to tbhe winner of the
fifteen round bout he is promoting
June 8 between Mae Baer and
Max Schmeling in the Yankee sta
dium,
He, of all persgons, should know.
He has completed one of the most
interesting ballyhoo stunts boxing
ever has seen. In two successive
days, Saturday and Sunday, the
former champion, fat, near forty,
and absolutely out .of condition,
has boxed one round with each of
the men he has hired to duel in
the first major heavy-w'éight bat
tle of the outdoor séason, his met
ropolitd¥t “@&huy as.. a _big league
promoter., . g
“‘Some ,one,” said;Dempsey Mon
day as he went baek to this job of
promoting, “will get knocked out
a week from Thursday night. Tt
will happen between the tenth and
the fifteenth round. I've got my
own ideas. But I can't tell you. *1
may want to use hoth these fight
ers again.”
“But 1 know this. Baeér hurt me
Sunday with a left hook to the
stomach, knocked the wind out of
me T only bgged two minutes
with him. And the day before,
when I boxed three minutes with
Schmeling, he didn’t ‘hurt e it
all. T was sick' that ddy. Sun-
day I felt great.” !
Certain deductions, of course,
can be made on that basis. But
Dempsey refuses t 0 make them
himself. Promoters, it seems, can't
have preference among their hire.
lings.
Dempsey worked out with the
210 pound Baer Sunday before a
crowd of 2,000 on the same amuse
ment field where he trained for
Georges Carpentier twelve years
ago.
Harried by the job of promotion,
getting only a couple of hLours
sleep nightly, scurrying around to
benefts and social gathevings, liv
ing mostly on black coffée, Demp
sey, despite. his lack of condition.
fought Schmeling on even terms
for one round Saturday and Sun
day gave Baer a trouncing. He
beat the clowning Californian with
left hooks to the head for a min
ute and a half without a return,
then took a left to the hody that
brought him willingly to the end
of a two minute workout,
