FUNDAMENTALS OF~ Pivot Helps Player to Put Power Plus Rhythm Into His Swing (EDITOR’S NOTE: This is the second of a series of six articles on the fundamentals of the golf stroke) Pivoting, or turnfng of the hips and shoulders, is necessary in the swing to put the player in a posi tion to hit the ball with power and force, yet with ease and rhythm. 2 It is through this hip and shoul der turn that some golfers can outdrvie others who have more muscle and weight. More golfers fail in executing correctly this fundamental than any other. The majority of play ers shooting 90 or over fail to turn the body far enough in the backswing. Instead of a turn of the hips and shoulders they will bring the clpbs to the top of the swing by a swaying motion to the right. When the player has turned sufficiently and properly, he will find his back presented to the hole, &nd he will be sighing the ball over his left shoulder.
