GRANDFATHER OF ATHENIAN DIES AT SAVANNAH, GA. ~ Athenians will regret) to learn of the death of J. W. Williams of Statesboro, grandfather of George S. and Hinton Williams of Athens, who reside with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Hinton. The Savannah Morning News re ports the death of Mr., Willilams as follows: - STATESBORO, Ga. — Jonn W. Williams, better known as Johr Veff Williams, was born in Tatt nall county, December 12, 1851, and gied in Savannah at the Warren Candler Hospital last Friday morn ing, July 7, after having passed the proverbial four score years, Mr Williams suddenly passed aiavay after only a few days’ illness from appendicitis,. For the past year he had been suffering from a slight illness, but this had about clear ed up when he was suddeniy taken with the new trouble. In the passing of Mr, W_illjajr)s Bulloch county, where his famity moved when he was very young, has lost one of its most prominent and outstanding citizens, and the state one of its distinguished ser vants, He served two terms in the Georgia Legislature, and was food administrator during the World War. He was publie spirited, was always ready to serve his country and his people both in religious ana ‘civil life, tnd his home has always been a popular gathering place for the old a;: the young alike. By example #nd precept he inspired the young people about him, and carried his philosophy of happinesg with him as he went about his daily work. Mr. Willilams was one of the county’s leading eitizens. He was engaged in the naval stores busl ness and farming on a large scale and was respected among business men in all walks of life.
