ATLANTA. —(#)—A meeting ol
representatives of the tomato plant
growers—one Of this state's rising
" industries—has beeén calle@ for
& Tifton on Saturday, August 5, by
. M. S. Yeomans, state entmologist
. in the interest of promcting the
" industry and improving the quality
of plants shipped out of Georgia.
The entomologist says Indiana
New Jersey, Delaware and Mary
dand have filed k'om-f,!:w‘ts that
there have been occasions when
severe infections of disease were
manifested after Georgia tomato
plants were set out in the fields
in those sta'es |
*“Despite the advantages of h:n‘d-‘
fness, cheapness and the assurance
of an early and dependable supply |
Georgia-grown plants must also le
sanitary to continue to be accepta
. ble to northeru growers and quar
antine officials,” said Mr. \'4«o-;
mans. “While yet no quummlnf‘si
against Georgia tomato plants have |
been enforced, their appearance in|
the near future is iplw'it.’lh]c- un-)
less our product is improved m]
guch an extent that such action|
s deemed unnecessary,” he said.
Culf First With
. “Air” Service Station|
The first aviation service sta
tion in history has been estab
lished by the Gulf Refining Com
pany on Long Island, New York.
A large, flat field, ideal for taking
. off and landing, has been secured
. and marked and every pussible’
convenience for both professional
. and amateur flyers has been ar-!
ranged.
. Under the direction of Captain
v William, noted flyer and Mana
~ ger of Aviation Sales for the Gulf
. Refining Company, the “air” ser
wvice station has been plainly
~ marked. In huge 12-foot Iletters, |
. the following massage has been |
painted on the ground: “Gulf Air
. Service Station.” Nearby the ad
. ditional message appears: “Gas—
|lß cents plus tax” (or whateverl
~ the current price may be). Thesel
. messages can be seen at a dis
. tance of 2,000 feet off the ground.‘
* Paul Gallico, well-known sports
ayriter and columnist, holds the dis
tinction of being the first “flying”
customer. He flew his plane over
from New York and landed at the
Gulf Air Service Station to re
fuel,
. The entire unique arrangement
lenables aviators not only to get
. complete gasoline and motor oil
. gervice conveniently, but also to
~ know exactly what the prevailing
price is before they land. Gulf
Gasolines and Motor Oils will be
- sold exclusively. Thes products
sused by Captain Al Williams in his
- famous Curtis Hawk, are the same
" which motorists secure at all Gulf
- Stations and dcalers.
