On Monday last, Messrs. Harrold,
Johnson & Co., received four wagons
loa 'e<l wilh syrup from one of the
plantations of lion. John A. Cobb, of
this county. There were thirty-six
barrels of very fine syrup and we learn
from the firm that received it, that
Capt Cobb made enough more to feed
the hands on four other plantations
belonging to him. The wagons re
turned Tuesday morning lo tiled with
empty syrup barrels. The Captainis
one ot these live farmers who make
their rations at home, keep their heads
above the high pressure mark of want,
and run smoothly with all parties.
This is the true independent move
ment of Georgia, In which all farmers
should join hands, and keep the ball
in motion.

have died there from natural cause.

Mrs Reuben Keith, of Hall county,
went to a funeral, accompanied by her
two children, who rode on a mule. To
make the children secure she tied
them on the mule, and when he got
scared and mil away the children
were nearly killed.
Mr A Campbell, of Philadelphia, has
bought the Arkwright cotton Facto
ry, at Savannah. Mr Thomas B Kel
ly, of Wilmington, N. C., will be the
Superintendent, and work will be
commenced at once.

Franklin county recently between
Mitchell Addison and Columbus Pur
cell. Addison was badly hurt.
Hon. W. O. Tuggle, and family, of

ploding dynamite cartridges under
tile water at the place where the fish
have congregated to get the bait that
has been put there for them. The
explosion is said to kill hundreds at a
lime. The practice threatens lo
destroy most of the fish in the streams

To the command to “stand and de
liver” that was given by a negro in
Columbus the other night to Mr.
John H. Johnston, the secretary and
treasurer of the Columbus Iron
Works, he replied with a lilow of the
fist. A scuffle ensued during which
of the Savannah, Albany and Gulf
Railroad Company, guaranteed by
the Mayor ot Savannah, under thc
seal of the city, and countersigned by
tbe Clerk of Council. The li-uids

that an assault by a band of illicit dis
tillers has been*made upon his depu
ties in Towi a county. The collector
also says that three of his iji-pmies in
Rabun* county after seizing several il
licit distilleries were fired uiion and all
wounded, oue of them five times.
The deputies returned the fire, and
being armed with United States
breech-loading rifles were enabled to
drive the illicit distillers off Collec
tor Clark expresses the opinion that
there is n preconcocted plan on the
part of illicit distillers throughout the
entire mountain section to resist reve
nue officers.
