The water bonds were discussed
again Saturday n>'al.
And though the crowd was not very
large, the ventilation of the subject
fra' complete.
The meeting was held
s t the Swift building
on the corner of Broad and Foundry
streets. Several citizens of East Ath
ens were present at the meeting and a
number of others.
■“Mayor Tuck peraided over the meet-
ingaud made a few remarks in open
ing it. His remarks were dearly stated
and to the point.
lion. H. 11. Carlton came next on the
programme of speakers and made a very
logical statement of the facts in the case.
HD argument about the necessity of
having a supply of pure water was lis
tened to attentively, especially bis tes
timony as a pbyeicUn to the effect that
k.e present source of supply is impure.
Dr. Carlton explained at length the
necessity of the city owning some in
stitution of an income-bearing nature
and urg-ui that the voters secure the
new system of water works which will
give the city a handsome income.
“The city is going to grow remarkably
now that the new railroads are being
built, snd her manufacturing interests
are spreading out,” said Dr. Carnun,
“and a new system of water works is iu-
dispensable.”
This speech was very forcible and
convincing iD its nature and waa round
ly applauded by those present.
Mr. T. W. Reed next took the stand iu
behalf of the bonds, and for about
half an hour spoke to the audience or
the benches to be derived from the es
tablishment of the new system of wa
ter works. He assured them of bis in-
