Washington, April 23.—The debate, on tbe Sayre-Rockwell contest was closed by Mr. O’Ferrall of Virginia, on behalf of Sayre. In the course of his remarks Mr. O’Ferrall referred to the criticism that bad been made upon bis Democracy, and to his supposed prefer ence for a certain candidate for the presidency. He did have such a prefer ence.' He said it was bis privilege, and he used a metaphor characterizing Hill, as a fox arid Cleveland as. a lion, and bis reference to the "magnificent and grand Grover -Cleveland of the state of. New York," brought down thunders of ap plause. At the conclusion of Mr. O’Ferrall’s speech the previous question was order ed. Without division the question re curred on .the resolution of tne minori ty as a substitute for the resolution of the majority.'.
