GRANT PASSES TO HER ETERNAL REWARD. MISS SUSAN A. MITCHELL After a Long Illness Enters Her Kest —The Funerals of These Ladies Will Occur Today. The death angel visited Athens yes terday morning and snmmoned two more spirit* before the great White Throne. At six o’clock yesterday morning at the residence of her nephew, Mr. T. H. Nickerson on Hill street, Mrs. T. C. Grant passed into the great beyond. She had reaohed the ripe old aoe of eighty-six years, and the summons of the Master found her ready. The aged pilgrim passed without a struggle through the pearly portals and received the crown so richly earned by a life of Christian devotion and piety. Mrs. Grant was the widow of the late Alfred Grant, who for many years was agent of the Georgia railroad in this city. She was born at lluckeport, Maine, in 1809, and for the last forty- eight years had been a resident of Ath ens. Mrs. Grant was the sister of Capt Reuben Nickerson and of Capt. I. H. Nickerson, of this city, and the mother of Mrs. James Galloway and Mrs. Sne Dorsey. She had, since childhood, jsen a de voted member of the Methodist church, and her life was orowned with many graces that went to make her beloved and respected by all who knew her. The funeral of Mrs. Grant will take place this afternoon at four o’olook at the residence of Mr. T. H. Nickerson on Hill street, and the oeremonles will be condoctedt by Rev. W. P. Love joy, pre siding elder of the Athens distriot. The interment will be in Oconee ceme tery, Mias mitchbll’s death. Y«s>rdsy morning about ten o’clock MissgSusaa A. Mitchell died at her borne on Hancock avenue in this oity. For many years Mias Mitchell bad been blind and in feeble health, and when death came she met it with Christian resignation, she had for many years been a consistent member of tbe Pres byterian cburoh, and her life waa full of pathos snd religious zsal. Though blind to the outward world she saw the glory of tbe Prince of Peace and at his feet learned the lesson of meekness, of patlonoe and repose. Miss Mitchell was a daughter of the late William L. Mitchell, who for a number of years was professor of law in the University of Georgia, and one of the most eminent members of tho Athens bar. She waa s oousin of Judge Albert L. Mitchell of this oity. Miss Mitchell, while feeble in health, was vigorous in intellect, ahe possess ed a mind of great brilliancy and dur ing her life had written a great deal of beantiful poetry. She was bUnd and hence oould not enjoy the sight of all of nature’s beau ties, being deprived of that great souroe of poetic imagination and desoripts in. Bat she bad a poetio muse that never failed her. Several years elnoe in speaking of her poetry to a reporter she described the way in whloh she wrote it. She said that at times her body would get per fectly oold ant that tbe sensation would be followed by something like an elec trio shock. Then she know that the time for her writing her poetry had arrived. Then before her eyes, dead to ordi nary sight, would appear letters as if in fire, then words and phrases, snd from these she would write the most beautiful verses. The funeral of Miss Mitchell will ba held this morning at bflf-psst ten o’olook at the Presbyterian Church. DR. H. C. WHITE Will Attend the Session of the Preeidents of State Colleges. A few montbs since Mrs. Mell died and as a tribute to her memory tbe name of the organization was changed and it is now known as the Beisie Mell Indus trial Home. The ladies have at last reached the time when they consider the organist- tion ready to begin work on its build ing. The plans for the building are be ing drawn by Capt. W. W. Thomas and they will call for the construction of one of the handsomest bouses in the Classic City. The plans will be com pleted in a few days. The work on the new building will begin about the middle of August and will go steadily on until it is completed, It will be erected at a cost of ten thous and dollars, and will be thorough in every respect. The apartments will be constructed so as to be convenient and serviceable for the work peculiar to the Industrial Home, and the good work of affording employment to worthy women will be continued and extended.
