KATHLEEN MARY QUINLAN’S BEAUTY
SECRETS PRODUCTS OF OLD IRELAND
¢+ By ETTA WILSON
NEW YORK.—Thirty years ago
a little Irish girl in hgr teens came
to this courtry to visit a sister.
She liked America so much that
she remained and found herself a
Job, »
That young woman was Kath
leen ‘Mary Quinlan and today she
has pne of the loveliest beauty
salons on Fifth avenue.
A ‘doctor was practically unheard
of in. the Quinlan home in Ireland,
\ Kathleen Mary's grandmother and
her mother gathered herbs, dried,
steeped, and mixed them to take
care * of& the family's ills. Her
grandmother was quite an expert
along this line and many times
little Kathleen Mary went with her
through the fields as she selected
this plant and that plant, dug up
the root of another and brought
them’ home.
The little girl was quite faccus=-
tomefi to seeing her mother make
small muslin bags, which were fill
ed with oatmeal and soaked in
buttermilk before being rubhbed
and ;atted over the face, neck, and
arms,
Anpther of her mother’s beauty
treatments was to steam maple
1»:\\«;’ and apply them to skin
spots’ which she wished to bleach.
And 40 this day maple leaves are
included in €ome of the Quinlan
preparations.
Mizs Quinlan says her own in
terest in beauty treatments began
pt as early age. She was treat

mate’s face and having watched
her grandmother prepare and ap
