MARKET MOVES
SLOWLY TODAY
Trading at Dullest Pace
Of Year; News of Stim
ulating Nature Lacking
BY VICTOR EUBANK
NEW Y9ORK —(AP)— The stock
market mills ground slowly Wed
nesday as the meager speculative
fuel appeared to be without any
appreciable motivating force,
Trading during the greater part
of the session was at the qullest
pace of the year to date. The tick
er tape barely moved at times.
Even the so-calléd professionals
seemed to be move timid than us
‘ual and there was little or no pub
liec participation. News of a stim
ulating nature wag lacking, for the
most part, and only a few scattered
specialties were able to climb out
of the rut,
Wheat dipped and =allied ner
vously. There were more reports
of rains that would aid the crops.
Other cerealg showed some im
provement, Cotton rallied. $1 or
more a bale, but lost part of this
undey profit taking.
PRICES FIRMER
NEW ORLEANS —(AP)— Cot
ton was less active Wednesday but
prices' developed a somewhat firm
er tone, due to good Liverpool ca
bles and a better demand in the
wake of the recent decline,

Cartoon
Received
The other day we received an
idea for a cartoon from an anony
mous contributor. Unfortunately,
we don't have a cartoonist in the
office, and were unable to use the
drawing. However, we're telling
you folks about it, because it's a
nice drawing, and the idea isn't
bad at all. On a chalr on a raised
platform is seated the figure of a
man, who's head is a circle in
which is placed a dollar mark.
Below the steps leading to the
dais is a kneeling figure, and on
the first step are sacks of gold,
labeled: ‘The Object of hig Pray
er.” The title is “The World's God
Today”. Thanks for sending it te
us, whoever you are, Mr. or Miss
Cartoonist. We wish you'd signed
yvour name go we could give credit
where it's due.
On Signs,
Etc—
If you haven’t been down town
at night lately, the sign in front
of Tony Postero’s is worth look
ing at next time you make a trip.
A neon arrow has been added be
neath the regular sign, and it
moves in rather quick sudden oc
tion. llf you're not up real close
to it, it looks rather wierd—just
a suspended arrow which looks
like it's going right through the
windows of the restaurant. Then,
speaking of signs, we notice that
the Varsity sign has been changed
in some sort of way. We don’t
know exactly how, but the other
night when we were driving by,
the big football was on a truck
and being carted somewhere or
other. The next day, however, it
was back up again and we haven’t
had -~ chance to ask about it.
Reverberations—
If It's Spelled Like That
A week or so ago we told here
the story of a young fellow who
lost his two snakesg in the house,
and of the suspense it was caus
ing among, his family, who never
knew exactly when one of them
was liable to pop out of a closet,
drawer, or what-not. Well, one of
them has been cornered and
caught. It was hiding undér the
dining room rug, and the cook
found it—much to her surprise,
disgust, and something very much
akin to fright. Now there’s only
one more to be caught, but it
seems to be a rather clever ser
pent, and stays in hiding, although
every now and then queer noises
like thingg sliding over things can
be heard in the house.
Brotherly
Love I
The oldest brother is about ten
years old, the. youngest seven.
They were out riding one day,
and the mother had a pack of
Dentyne chewing gum, which, as
you remember, comes flat, with each
piece rather small—until you start
chewing it. She offered some té
the brothers. Older brother brok¢
off about half of the pack—ap
proximately three pieces. Yonger
brother glared. Older brother chew
ed on peacefully. Finally, he had
an idea: “Mama,” he said, “how
many pieces of gum are there in a
pack of Dentyne gum?” Younger
brother couldn’t hold it in any
longer. “Only one,” he shoufed, “it
you get hold of it first.”
