UNIVERSITY CAMPUS
On The Inside
Looking Out
© Well, the politicking is all over
now, and peace will again reign
“on the campus—that is. until some
of the “would-be officr-holders”
find out whe cut whose throat—
but this too will subside in time.
Anyhow, the Progressive party
held up in the Pan-Hellenic elec
tions, long enough to elect DeNean
Stafford president of the ecouncil.
Incidentally, this marked the first
time in the history of University
politics, that a party remained in
tact for more than one year. And,
“Senator” Moore of the campus
leadership by a comfortable mar
gin, despite the last minute Caven
der-opposition that developed. |

By electing Stafford to the
C'ounci] presidency, the Progres
sives set themselves up as a. very
formidable party. For, despite the
several reputedly “weak sisters” in
their organization, certain houses
openly broke an agreement that
had been made when the party was
formed. That is, not to let une
fraternity hold office in the «Coun
¢il, two years in succession. By
doing this, and getting away with
it, the Progressive party showed
that it was bigger than any one
fraternity in it.
One of the highlights of the
Council election, was a bit of high
clasg political maneuvering carried
out by the representatives of one
of the housfs that was just on the
border line. ILast week new Pan-
Hellenic representativeg were elect
ed at this house, but the old Coun
cii ‘members made an agreement
with the new men whereby they |
(last term’s representatives) w:
to continue in office until at least
part of the elections were over,
And, well—the old members very
dramatically tendered their resig
nation from the Council immedi
ately after Stafford was elected,
and for this, one of 'the new men
wag expected to a minor office in
the Council.
The inconsistent thing about
election periods, is the wvictory
party that usually follows the an
rouncement of the new officers,
If wvon had dropped into Old Col
lege Tuesday mnight, you'd have
“geen “Senator’” Moore, John Cav
.ender, and Eb Davis, all standing
around patting each other on the
Back—a thing which couldn’t pos
mbly have happened before Tues
‘day. And out al the Sigma Chi
ouse, |am told, the very same
sthing was going on, with every-
YTody present taking time off to
toast and laud Stafford. ,
. Politiclans are pretty much en
eouraged by the results of this
jestion periods is the virtory
gto reach new heights. One of
them even went as far as to make
‘the idle boast that he could line
“up enough wvotes to be able to
‘pretty well determine who the Red
and Black editor and the other
staff members were going to he.
‘But I'm afraid that young man s
shooving at the starg there. Poli
fics control pretty nearly every ex-
Jre currieular organization on this
.campus, but the Red and Black is
one thing that will not fall into
the. hands of the political vandals.
As you probably know, Mal Hal
lett, up to a while ago had been
signed to play for Tech’s “finals,”
but from rumors réceived here,
that's all off now, It seems that
someone snooping around “where

a double contract agreement. That
is, one contract calls for one sum
of money to be payed he orches

ing for a much lower sum, and the
difference goes to the one who
hires the orchestra. I am told that
thid is quite a common practice
in the colleges. And so, Tech is
making attempts to secure Isham

’ Just as was expected, this bus
inesg of making girls who come in
late from dates, pay a fine, is
proving wvery successful. It has
just about reached the stage where
all the girls (or the girl's date) has
to to be able to stay out later than
she is supposed to, is pay a little
“licensing fee”. This. whole thing
would be a lot more effective it
instead of making the girls pay
fineg, to make them come in from
their next date, a c¢ertain number
of minutes earller, depending on
how late they were, getting in from
their last date.
President Sanford is a very busy
man, having all sorts of things to
worry him every minute of the
time that he is awake, but yester
day he took time off to go domes

new-fangled “%0-second mayon

Six Bananas A Day
Wear The Pounds Away
A new fad ,among women on
campus here ig the banana diet,
wherehy they eat two bananas and
drink a pint of skimmed milk
three times a day. It is very ef
fective too, as Mary Bach and
Bunny Trawick will tell you. The
only thing about it {is that it’s
made a sissy of Frank TLee. Two
nights this week, Frank was seen
goig out to Lucy Cobb carrying
two bananas and two half-pint
hottles of milk with him. You
know who theyiwere for.' I just
rembered that the latest one to ga
on this diet is Billie Hill.

Pan-Hellenic dance Friday night,
will find such old romantic combi
nations as Meta Shaw and Lud
Pierce, Rita Slotin and Howard
Romm, Dot Davis and Charley
Warner, I.iddy Rice and Charley
Richardson. and Lee Whiteman
and Dan Nathan. ~ . . Did you
know that when Harold Hirsch’s
birthday came around, last week,
his dad sent a nus to Athens to
get all his friends and take them
to a little stag . dinner at the
Standard club in Atlanta, which
was throswn in Harold. jr.s, honor.
. . . Virginia McLeod finally ad
‘mitted Jast night, that she could

there is the possibility, that the
