’ EDWARD G, ROBINSON
IS STAR AT STRAND /
“The Man With Two Faces”
which opens a two day run at the
Strand Monday so, its local pre
miere will more than make good
the promises of its producers and
’exhibiwrs. It is a dramatic mas
terpiece, finely acted. BEdwara G.
t Robinson is in the leading role. ‘
: The story ¢ells of a theatrical
family, the son being an actor and
producer, and the daughte, one of
' the popular and talented women on
the stage. This girl married a
scoundrel who exercises a hypno
tic power that well nigh kills her
career, Apparently, she can act
only when motivated by the sinis
ter influence of her husband, and
when he disappearsfit almost des
troys her. She had about overcome
this influence, when the husband
returns from prison, resumes con
trol over her mind, and is sending
her to utter ruin when he is mur
dered. i
The mystery of the murder forms
the base for the plot, and it is suf
ficient to say that not until the
very end of the pray does the au
dience know the identity of the
slayer, or the motives for the act.
[Robinson, as the .orother .and’
as Mr. Chautard, enacts a double
role in a masterly manner,

Arrest Negro in
.
. Recent Slaying
City Policeman W. H. Smith
and County . Policeman Bg_l
McKinnon were called to A
lanty yesterday on account of
an arrest there of a Negro man
which the Clarke officers are
seeking, but when they arrived
there they found that the pris
oner was not the one they
were seeking.
However, while at the jail,
they were given a tip that the
man they were seeking, Will
Henry Thomas, was at his sis
ter's house in Atlanta. They
acted on the tip and found
their man, bringing him back
to Athens and confining him
in:the county jail.
Thomas is being held for the
murder of Robert Butler, a
Negro, here several weeks ago.
The grand jury will act on the
murder charges against him
at its session this week.

CAMPHIGN AWAITS
~ NAMINE OF BOARD
Will Name Advisory and
Executive Boards for
Housing Campaign
Launching of Athens’ hetter
housing campaign, which was en
dorsed at a meeting of citizeng at
the Georgian hotel Friday after
noon, awaits gelection of advisory
and executive committees, i
The decision (0 hold the cam
paign, to encourage use of credit
facilities for repairing and mod-‘
epnizing homes vunder the Nation-i
al Housing Admin{stration, was.
made after the general committee
of which D. Weaver Bridges is
chairman, heard an explanation of
the program by W. A. Sirmon,
state director for Georgia, and by |
representatives of the NHA who
t spoke to the Athens audience in a
i miniature talking picture program
| brought here by Mr. Sirmon. The
| program Jasted about thirty min
| utes, and showed pictures of lead
{ ers in housing campaigns in other
icities, compared buildings in need
tof repair with those which had
been repaired, or modernized.
} Chairman Bridges named nine
members of the general committee
|to go over the complete list and
lselect the advisory and executive
| committees: Abit Nix, chairman;
M. N. Tutwiler, Mrs. Carl Saye,
Mrs. T. W. Reed, W. R, Bed
good, Mrs. IL.ouise Lanier, J. B.
Farr, J, K. Davis and M, .C.
Buckley. Their selection is subject
’to approval of the general com=
mittee, i
It was explained at the meeting
that the campaign will not be
connected with that section of
the housing administration which,
later on, will make credit possible
for re-financing building loans, but
is concernéd with broadening the
use of credit authorized for repair
fng and modernizing . buildings.
James Sartor, vice-president of the
Citizeng and Southern bank told
the meeting that his bank, as well
as other institutions authorized to
make these loans by NHA is co
operating with the movement and
quite a few loans have already
been made in Athens.
Mr. Sirmons said that persons
eligible to borrow money from
banks under the NHA provisions
must have good credit standing.
although the loans are what are
called charcater loans, He said the
NHA guarantees the joans up to
twenty per cent of the total which,
the federal government believes,
will protect the banks adequately.
He said Augusta has subscribed
$4,000 to conduet a modernizing
campaing there, and that Atlanta
subscribed $7,500 to carry on its
campaign.
"The object of the NRA program
is to encourage home and other
property owners to repair their
property thus giving work and
stimulating the flow of money.
The benefits from such a program
will be felt by the entire commun
ity, it is declared. Loans may be
payable monthly and may cover a
period of three years.
