Lo- gan, well known Baptist minister, as he preached his usual seérmon in the Hull Baptist church—for it was there exsctly two decades ago a young 19 year old Mercer Uni versity student, that Rev. Logan began delivering sermons. Last Sunday, on his 20th anni versaryy as a pastor, the ‘church had gn unusually fine service, es pecially since a fine group of young people consecrated their lives to the service of God. The Hull church is a progressive one and the Sunday school hag a large group of young men and women who gre laying the ground work for a great church of tomor- Tow, . The church has been redecorated and painted and a new carpet was placed on the floor by the Wom an’s Missionary society. Mrs. Ava Pope Patton, a former Athens girl, is president of the society and Mr. Patton is treasurer of the chureh, Mr. Craig Spratlin is superin tendent of the Sunday school and Mr. q'n:nn Brown is chairman of the board of deacons. Mrs. A. E. Logan, wife of the pastor, teaches the class of young men and women on the regular preaching day and directs the music. Music Student Mrs. Logan was g student in the graduate departments of voice and piano at Bessie Tift college and has continued her study since moving to Athens. Rev. Logan is beginning his seventh year at Maysville today. This is a half-time church and has made progress under his lead ership during the past six years. Mr. M. L. Payne, Sunday school superintendent, is also president of the Sarepta Sunday school associ ation, including more than sixty churches in thig section. Rev. and Mrs. Logan were call ed to Maysville a few days ago as honor guests at a program and to receive a shower of good things for the pantry and other useful things. The church was beautiful in its holiday decorations. Rev. Logan jed a short devotional and Mrs. Logan spoke on a subject of her choice, “Leaving our children the Legacy of a Shining Faith.” -She stressed that one must have faith in the outcome of things; that the spiritual and not the material things, are the most worthwhile. Rev: Logan has been pastor at Danielsville for many years. Dur ing the past year the church he gan a bhuilding program and has made great progress in improve ments on the building. The church contemplates building Sunday school rooms in the mear future Church Blessed The Danielsville church is parti cularly blessed in its leadership, composeq of such men as Mr. R. C. Griffeth, clerk of the church; Mr. 1., B. Greene, treasurer, and R. T. Broome, Sunday School superin tendent. The women of the church are well organized and faithful in each department of the church’s activities. ¢ Last year Rev. Logan accepted the pastorate of the Rogers Bap tist church, giving them the third Saturday and Sunday afternoon his time being completely occupied on Sunday mornings and nights.. A splendid revival was held the past summer with Rey. Logan de livering a series of sermons on stewardship and consecration. Mrs, Logan had charge of the music for the revival. * Rev. and Mrs, Logan are facing the new vear and th= pastor's 2ist year in the service of the Kingdom with a full program of work map ped out for the churches near Ath ens. The legion of personal friends of the popular couple and the dozens upon dozens they have turned to a religious life are busy this week tendering their congregulations as they start another year of work and voicing the hope that this section will be fortunate to have them as residents for many more years to come, HAs'one friend told a Banner- Herald reporter: “How fine it would be if you could write a story twenty years from now and start it off: “Time turned back forty vears last Sunday for Rev. A E, Logan, beloved Baptist minister, as he preached his usual sermon in the Hull Baptist church—for it was there exactly four decades ago as a young 19 year olg Mercer univer sity student, that Rev. Logdn began delivering sermons.” ' And the tribute is deserved. { Home Demonstration, Extension Clubs To Emphasize Nutrition During Year By MISS ANN DOLVIN Home Demonstration Agent The emphasis program for the Home Demonstration and extension clubs of Clarke county for this clyb year is Nutrition, with a follow-up program in clothing which was our project of empha sis last year. The need for this program was pbrought forcibly to our attention by the results of a county.survey made last fall by the agent and members of the clubs which re vealed the fact that many rural families were failing to produce food products needed in sufficient quantity to take care of home needs the year round, although many families had some surpluses at times during the year. The Community clybs have al ready begun selecting their gar dening prq)ect chairmen whose first real job will be to encourage every person in their community to plan and plant a garden accord ing to the needs of the family. Special outlines prepared by the state nutrition specialists will be used as guides for making the garden plans. The garden project leader in each club will give time ly suggestions of, when and how to plant, and on the cultivation of various vegetables as well as on the control of diseases and in secte. The next thing will be to begin a study of 'Nutrition which will include planning and preparation of family meals, the utilization and conservation of all varieties of food stuffs. Emphasis will be placed on proper diets for the children as well ag diets in health and dis ease for the family. Other nutrition problems found in the county were the lack of poultry. dairy pgoducts and fruits. We believe that fresh fruits are as valuable in the diet as fresh vegetables. Efforts will be made to plant more varieties of fruit trees, berries and grapes in amount sufficient to supply the family needs. The Holly Heights 4-H eclub en tered the Chilean Nitrate of Soda gardening contest last year. Gar dening records were sent in at the end of the year of the nine 4-H club - girls, They were: Helen Todd, Christine McKee, Vivian Daniels, Roberta Bullock, Florence Liacount, Doris Lacount, Hunice Mills, Florence Pittman and Ruby Scarborough. These girls are com peting soy a prize of $50.00 for their club. We hope to have more clubs to enter this contest next yvear. iai i) All of the 4-H club and Home Demonstration clubs in the county are being reorganized. The work for the year has been outlined and preparations are being ‘made to carry out plans. The 4-H club girls are beginning their pajamas or night gowns. Bach club girl will be expected to make for herself one type of sleep~ ing garment, ! In the Home Demonstration clubs we are making a study at this time of hand work and hand crafts. All of the ladies were asked to bring their sewing. Interesting designs and neat work in cut work, appli que, crochet, hemstitching, knit~ ting and tatting has been brought in and exhibits have been made of these articles. A demonstration has been given tm each of the women’s clubs on Wwool crochet, knitting and tied mats. Much in terest has been shown in the tied mats which make nice luncheon sets, centers pieces, tray covers and vanity sets. They may be made in white or solid eolors. Very in teresting ones have been made, this week by club members using two colors. Beginning Monday of next week, | hot lunch will be served each da.y‘ in six of the -county schools.
