March 20, 21, and 22 were announ-'
ced Saturday by the local commit-~
tee in charge. y
The public is invited to thel
meetings, but tickets will be nec
essary for the social affairs, Mem
ners of Hlijah Clarke chapter may
purchase these any/ time before
March 10 from Mps. M. R. Red
wine. :
There are approximately 5,000
members and 100 chapters of the
organization in Georgia, and
around 200 persons are expected
{0 attend the convention. Regis- |
wration will take place on the ope
ning day, Wednesday, March 20,
it the Georgian hotel, which will
pe headquarters. The State ¥Exe
cutive hoard will meet there that
afternoon at 3 o’clock and the con
ferenca will be opened by a ban-,
quet Wednesday evening after]
which the convention will get un
der way at the University chapel.
Sanford Speaks
President 8. V. Sanford of the
University will welecome the dele
sates, after which Mayor A. G.
pudley will bring greetings from
the city, and Mrs. Julius Talmadge
will introduce the distinguished
guests present. A number of out
of the state women of prominence
in patriotic circles are expected

Thursday morning at 7:30 there
will be a breakfast for the state
officers at the Georgian hotel a.nd'{
at 9 o'clock the business meeting
at the chapel will be ‘held, fol-<
lowed by luncheom. A memorial
wrvice will feature the afternoon
meetings, and the Children of the
Revolution will be hostesses that
evening at a buffet supper, after
which the D. A. R. regents from
100 chapters will take part in a
pageant at Lucy Cobb chapel.
Friday morning will be de
voted to business, reports, resolu
tions and similar matters, after
which the eonvention will be closed
by a luncheon. It is. customary -to
deliver all prizes —and anfiounce.

which sang the ‘Christmas carols

American Legion Auxiliary Meeting ‘
At Log Cabin Frday; Miss Freddie
Hill Presents Two Gifts To Chapter
The amerrcan Legion Auxiliary
of the Allen R. Fleming Post held
its February meeting Friday aft
ernoon at the Log Cabin on
Lumpkin street. Mrs, Jake Joel,
president, presided. :
The meeting was opened as
Misses Marinana Smith and
Aleene Hodgson entered bearing
the United States flag and the
Legion flag, while ‘the members
sang the Star Spangled Banner.
Pledge to the flag was given,
followed by the Lord's prayer.
Minutes of the last meeting
were read, treasurer's report
adopted and committee reports
heard. '
Mrs. Weaver Bridges was given
the prize {or securing the most
members.
A framed list of the charter
members and two citations for
work done by the auxiliary was
presented to the chapter by Miss
Freddie Hill, sergeant-at-arms.
A silver tea will be given at an
early date so that the friends of
‘the auxiliary may visit the new
HWome. Miss Moina Michael offer
ed her large collection of war
relics for the occasion.
During the month of March the
auxiliary will be hostess to Hos
pital 62 at Augusta.
Atlanta Habersham Garden Club
Plans Flower School February 27-28
Habersham ' Garden Club of At
lanta, will hold a course in Jjudg=
ing, arranging and exhibiting for
amateur flower shows in Atlanta
on February 27th and 28th. The
course will be open to exhibitors
as well g 5 those who wish to take
the examination toward becoming
accepted judges. Bach Garden club
is urged to send at least two mem
hers.
John C. Wister, former presi
dent of the American Iris Society
and gn authority on horticultural
subjects, will lecture on “Grow
ing Flowers for Exhibition”. Mrs.
Wheeler H. Peckham, member of
the advisory board of the New
York Botanical Society, will have
as her subject “The Flower Show
and How to Judge It.” |
John T. Arms, of Fairfield,
Conn., will give an illistrated talk
on “How to Make Arrangements’,
For those who wish to take the
test, there will be a questionaire
at 8 p. m., February 28th. Those
passing the test- will be entitled
to a. membership card and names
will be listed. with the State club,
Lessons will be held in the morn
ings and afternoons in order 10
shorten the time for those com
ing from distant points. A charge
of $5.00 per person will be made
for the judging course, $1.50 each
for separate lectures. Clubs hav
ing five or more members pres
ent will be given a rate of $4.00
for the series.
Those attending are invited to
a tea to be given by the Haber
sham club, Wednesday afternoon,
February 27th from b to 6 o’clock,

Meets Tuesday at 4:00
The Sew and Study Group of
Barrow school will hold the
fourth of its stimulating series of
meetings on Tuesday, February 12,
at 4 o'clock at the school. Miss
Florence Young, who is connected
with the university as associate
professor of education and psych
ology will lead the discussion on
the subject of “Discipline.” In
view of the fact that Miss Young
has been closely associated with
children in the Laboratory school
of the Department of KEducation
and that the subject is of such
interest to all parents, this meet
ing is one of the most anticipated
in the excellent series.

the funeral of Dr. Jere M. Pound.
