and children out of the riot zone,
and said tear gas would be dis
carded in favor of regular war
gases to quell any trouble.
“I don’t mind a good fight,” Paui
said, “but I hate to see cowards line
up women and children in front and
then throw brickbats from behind.”
One of the first tasks set so |
the military was closing up all{

artificial stimulation was needed |
for the rioters, |
Though the company had indi

UTILITY TROUBLE IS
PLACED BEFORE FDR
(Continued rrom Page One)
vote margin—4b to 44—defeated
an amendment to regulate instead
of abclish holding companies,
there were clear indications that
the President ~himself ' would be
asked what he preferred.
Plans were discussed’ to put
through a bill broadening the
powers of the Tennessee Valley
authority. That also has passed
the senate, but was tabled by the
house military affairs committee
and all efforts to get it off the ta
ble have failed.
There were two suggestions:
JFirst, that the senate add the
TVA to some other major bill and
serd it to the housge again; sec
ond, that Chairman McSwain (D).«
§. C.) introduce a new bill and
see what he could accomplish by
agreeing to let the . comptroller
general have audit control over
expenditures by the TVA.
The tway, meanwhile, was being
‘smoothed for other “must” bills,
A surveyv of the house showed the
Wagner labor disputes bill, already
passed by the senate, would get a
substantial majority. It was
scheduled to reach the house
floor this week,
