Ohio at Farewell Party
Miss Jane Mattox, who has been
the charmingly feted guest of Miss
Eleanor Williams, left Monday for
Gadgden, -Ala., where she will visit
before returning to her home in
Lancaster, Ohio.
Saturday evening Miss Williams
was the delightful hostess honor
ing Miss Mattox at a small fare
well suppér party.
Decorations of garden flowers
throughout the attractive home
made an attractive setting for the
lovely oceasion. The handsomely
appoined table, overlaid wth ex
quisite handmade mats wds cen
tered with a gay cluster of pink
phlox and golden centered daisies,
with glowing waxen tapers.
A delicious supper was beauti
fully. . served, and covers . were
placed for sixteen, who were Miss
Mattox and Miss Williams, Misses

Berryman’s Spring thig morning.
The members met at the church at

picnic at the spring.

Mrs. W. W. Mize, Grandmother
. Ot Forty, Observes Her 83rd
Birthday With Dinner Sunday
Mrs. W. W. Mize, who lives
with her son, P. Dallas Mize, 1425
Oconee street, Sunday celebrated
her 83rd birthday. Present on the
happy occasion were several mem
bers of her family and many
friends, who had come to enjoy
with her the happy day and to
congratulate her and wish her
many more happy birthdays.
Mrs. Mize, who was a Miss
Guest before her marriage to the
late W, W. Mize of this city, was
reared in Franklin county, . both
she and her husband being mem
bers of two of the most prominent
and influential families in Frank
lin county.
She is the proud mother of thir
teen children, all of whom she
reared to maturity and all of whom
married and have children, some
of them grandchildren. Twelve of
her children are still living, a son
having lost his life a few years
ago in an automobile wreck. In
addition to her children, Mrs. Mize
has 40 grandchildren and 44 great
grandchildren. et
She is a woman of many mnoble
traits of character and notwith
standing her advanced age, is still
active and alert both mentally and
physically. -
At the noon hour Sunday dinner
was sprea@ on specially con
structed tables under the shade
trees on the lawn. These large
tables were laden with food calcu
lated to tempt the most fastideous.
Included was a variety of well
cooked barbecued meats..
After the delightful meal had
been enjoyed, the honoree then
put out the 83 candles that adorn
ed the large birthday cake.
It was a day long to be remem
bered by the many who were pres
ent or who called during the day
to extend congratulations.

Becomes Bride in Cere
mony at Decatur Monday
ATLANTA — The marriage of
Miss Ellen Hayes and Dr. Richard
Bascomb Warriner, jr., took place
Monday afternoon at the home of
the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Steele Hayes, on McDon
ough street in Decatur. Dr. Lester
Rumble, of Athens, performed the
ceremony .
The improvised altar was deco
rated with palms, ferns and white
gladiolus, with cathedral candela
bra holding white burning tapers
interspersing the foliage plants.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Mobley, act
ing as flower girl, was the bride’s
only attendant. She wore a frock
of blue net over white satin and
carried a basket of rose petals.
The bride entéred with her fath
er, Robert Steele Hayes, by whom
she was given in marriage and was
met at the altar by the bridegroom.
She was a lovely figure wearing
pale blue chiffon, closely fitted
with a floor-length skirt and full
sleeves gathered at the wrists, A
pleated frill, caught at the throat
by large crystal buttons, " formed
a becoming neckline. The bride
wore a cluster of white roses and
lilies of the valiey, tied with white
satin ribbon. #
I'ollowing the ceremony the ri
dal party and guests were enter
tained by °the bride's parents at
an informal reception. Assising in
receiving were Misses Claudie and
Dorothy Hayes, Carolyn Chandler,
Isabel Tappan and jnne Hayes.
Assisting in entertaining were
Misses Laurie and Betty Hayes.
The bride’s mother was becoming
ly gowned in brown and white fig
ured net, with a spray of talisman
roses and sweet peas.
Dr. and Mrs. Warriner left for
Corinth, Miss., the home of the
bridegroom, where they will re
main for a few days before leaving
for New York. On June 29 they
will sail on the S. 8. Britannic for
Paris, France, where Dr. Warriner
has been apoinied for a year's
service at the American hosital of
Paris.

Society Wednesday afternoon at
her. pretty new homeé on the
Princeton road. Lovely summer
flowers were used for decoration.
Reports of committees, roll call,
offering and other business was
taken care of, followed by bulletin
news and a report of the Woman's
Missionary Council in St, Louis.
The society had as its visitors
for the afternoon Miss Lilla Tuck!
and Mrs, C. C. Jarrell.
Miss Tuck gave a devotional on
“Witnessing for Christ)” which
was very impressive.
Mrs. Jarrell's talk on Women

this afternoon, assembling the
members for a delightful game and
the usual lovely hospitality of the
gracious hostess. The presence of
Mrs. Harrison Watts of Waycross
who is visiting Mrs. Rucker was
an added pleasure to the spirited
game which was followed by deli
cious refreshments.
The attractive home was artis

flowers, making a colorful setting

A man, who refused to disclose
his identity, was captured with the
car. In the car were 110 gallon
cans and 21 gallon kegs of whis
key, which was poured out in front
of the courthouse here,

infantile paralysis vaccine to about
fifty physicians in North Carolina
and Tennessee, principally Char
lotte, Durham and Memphis.
It was stated at .the university
the immunizing vaccine was sent
in response to many telephone calls
and telegrams from physicians be
cause of the priviance of the dis
ease in certaln communities of
those states. It was sent by air
plane and train. -
The doses will serve about 500
children. Dr. Kolmer is preparing
to send 1500 to 2,500 additional
doses within the next wee or ten
days, it was stated.
