Numerous Issues Back Up
As Buyers Decide to Cash
In on Cains |
By VICTOR EUBANK
Associated Press Financial Writer
NEW YORK (F)—The stock
market today tip-toed cautiougly
through a maze 0l realizing and
selective buying.
There were few weak spots in
the list, but a number of issues
back up a trifle as some traders
decided to cash in their gains. At
the same time the ability of
scattered stocks to edge into new
high territory for the year helped
to maintain the optimistic senti
ment of recovery proponents.
Gains were fairly steady, but
cotton dipped. There was & littlel
petter demand for utility and in-l
dustrial bonds. Although the
guilder rallied, other foreign ex-]
changes were somewhat mixed,,
Fractionally higher prices were
recorded by shares of Sharon
Steel Hoop, American Tobacco
“B,” Sears-Roebuck, Montgomery
Ward, National: Cash Register,
Republic Steel, American Tele
thone, Consolidated Gas,* Good
vear, U. S. Rubber and N. T
Central.
Among leaders about unchanged
to as much as a point lower were
General Motors, Chrysler, General
Electric, U. 8. Steel, National
Steel, Case, Bethiehem, Anaconda,
Kennecott, Alaska Juneau, Amer
jcan Smelting, Santa Fe, Schenley,
National Distillers and Southern
Pacific. Corn Products dropped 2
points,
The fact that, as in the past
several weeks, dullness accom
panied the minor reactionary
flurries, was interpreted as an in
@ication that the market is still
in strong hands and that invest
ment demand, rather than specu
lative influences, acts as an un
usually substantial prop for the
list.

Residents of Ball’s
Ferry Area Ask Vinson
To “Stick By Guns”
WRIGHTSVILLE, Ga. — (#) —
The folks of this community, who
for years have been trying to get
a road paved, have sent Congress
man Carl Vinson a message to
“stick by your guns” in the fight
for construction of a bridge at
Ball's Ferry, near here, Charlie
Rountree, editor of the Wrights
ville Headlight, said today.
Building of Ball’'s Ferry bridge
is the bone of contention between
the state highway department and
the federal government which has
resulted in holding up payment of
$19,000,000 in highway funds to
Georgia.
Federal authorities want the
bridge built; the state highway
board, backed by Governor Eugene
Talmadge, says there are other
more important roads to be built.
Talmadge says also Congressman
Vinson is “trying to dictate the
Georgia highway map,” and thati
to build Bal's Ferry bridge now|
would be a surrender of state’s
rights,
Editor Rountree said today ‘“‘we
folks have just sent telegrams to
Carl Vinson telling him to ‘stick
by your guns’ iln the fight for
Ball’s Ferry bridge.
“I have been fighting for that
bridge, day in and day out, for
about 18 years. The folks down
here want that bridge.
“We don't want to be made to
g 0 somewhere we don’t want to g 0
before we can go where we want
to go 0,” said Rountree, explaining
that under the present highway
‘system, Wrightsville had no direct
route ‘to other poinfs in the state

Cornell report suggested that
medical men examine the human
angle, to gsee whether overdosage
of the oil may he sericus for chil

recognize that their results have
no such bearing on use of cod
liver oil in human nutrition,
’ The trouble is traced to a stili
unidentified fraction of the oil in

| The experiments were described |
:in the Cornell Bulletin by Dr. L. |

} Attention was directed to the
' auimalg because cod liver oil lis
fed to various farm flocks and
Iherds.
“A diet containing cod liver 0il”
;the repert said, “has been found
to preduce muscle and heart ine
Fjuz'ies in various herbivorous ani
lmals. The injuires have been
/more severe with a synthetic diet
of purified foods, but toxic sym
toms llave also been obtained with
(natural fcofs.
! “Rabbits, sheep, guinea pigs
land goats have been found sus
icemible to these injuries.
| The writers point out that the
|levels of cod liver oil which have
|been found injurious are not in
lexces-; of the amounts sometimes
| recommended so: various farm
lauimals and ‘or children.
