The Young Matron’s Circle of

held its regular monthly meeting
Wednesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Warren Pledger , with
Mrs. Johnnie Kemp, circle leader,
presiding
“Beautiful Garden of Prayer”
was sung. The spiritual life and
message group had charge of the
devotional. Mrs. Ernest Beacham
gave the message and spoke from
the book, “Ways of Praying.” Her
subject was “Acts of Recollection,
Relaxation and Intercessory Pray
ers She first said we are not
true Christians if we are not
missionary minded. Our job is to
keep ourselves in harmony with
owe - fellows. Try. te control our
thoughts when we are vexed and
have beautiful thoughts that our
faces might shine with those in

graduated from the University of
Georgia and was a member of the
Chi Psi fraternity.

Mrs. Johnnie Kemp told of “Our
Mission High Schools and Ewha
College,” using the leaflet of the
month. She then gave an outline
of a Korean playlet entitled
“When Custom Binds.” A very in
teresting phase of Korean life was
uncovered in the playlet.
Mrs. Walter Kent dismissed
with prayer. Delightful refresh
ments were served by the hostess,
Mrs. Pledger. Those present were

Mrs. U. H. Davenport was the
gracious hostess Saturday after
noon, entertaining at a very beau
tiful neighborhood bridge party in
honor of Mrs. Edwin K. Smith,
who has been -her charming
neighbor since her arrival in Ath
ens and who is moving this week
to the Max Michael home on Grady
avenue.
Mrs. Smith has been a most
delightful acquisition to Athens
social and military life since she

Mrs. Davenport’s lovely hospi-|
tality isalways beautifully extend
ed and on this bright occasion she
entertained four tables of players,
grouped in a setting of gorgeous
dahlias, gladioli and other rich
hued flowers. Following the in
teresting game delicious refresh
ments were served and several
pretty prizes awarded.
The enjoyable occasion was one
of the outstanding social affairs
of the quiet mid-summer calendar
as one of its outstanding contri
butions,
