December Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Joseph Bell announce the engagement
of their daughter, Susan Thea Bell, to Walter Morton Wellman
III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter M. Wellman Jr. The bride-elect
is the granddaughter of Mrs. Grady C. Nickerson and the late
Mr. Nickerson of Columbus, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Bell of
Athens. Miss Bell attended the University of Georgia and was a
member of Angel Flight. She is presently employed by the First
American Bank and Trust Company of Athens. The future
bridegroom is the grandson of Mrs. Linton Gerdine and the late
Mr. Daniel H. Magill, and Mrs. Walter M. Wellman Sr. and the
late Mr. Wellman of Athens. Mr. Wellman attends the Universi-
ty of Georgia, where he is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon
social fraternity. A late December wedding is planned.

Columbus For "St. Elmo"
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert B O.w-
ens are in Columbus partici-
pating in a weekend celebra-
tion which marks a significant
cultural milestone in that
Georgia City. Mr. Owens is a
member of the Georgia Art
Commission. This group meet
jointly with the Georgia His-
torical Commission on Satur-
day morning at the Columbus
Museum of Arts and Crafts.

Theater Society meet in Co-
s were guests at the dedica-
tion of the recently restored
Springer Opera House, follow-
ing which a premiere per-
formance of a revival of the
once well-known play "St
Elmo" was presented. Three
years ago the charming old
Springer Opera House was
designated a historic land-
mark by the National Trust
for Historic Preservation.
Since that time the citizens of
Columbus have raised more
than $200,000 for its complete
renovation and restoration.

New Hair Blending Process

Today's piled-high hair-do's,
with thick braids, pony-tails
and piles of curls, take a lot
of hair.
And as any woman will tell
you, hair takes a long time to
grow.
Into this breach have
stepped American wig-mak-
ers. whose techniques with
synthetic fibers have given
nature a helping hand and in
the process, made wigs al-
most as popular as lipstick.
The success secret for hair-
pieces is in the color blending,
says Jo Parrott, a consultant
for Heavenly Creations who

open a new blending operation
at Gallant-Belk Company.

creates the long hairpieces for
braiding or pinning up, and
also can provide wiglets and
full wigs.
Mrs. Parrott, like all other
blenders of the Heavenly
company, attended a school
held at their Norfolk, Va.,
headquarters to learn the fine
art of color matching.
Most hair, she said, as from.
four to seven colors in it
which must be matched for a
natural-looking chignon.
Mrs. Parrott and Ann Col-
lins, who will be the regular
operator at Gallant-Belk,
I have 38 hair colors for blend-
ing, ranging from lightest
blonde through all the browns,
to three shades of black-
blue-black, reddish black and
greenish black.
Then there are the pastel
pinks, blues and lavenders,
touches of which are often
needed to give an exact
shade.
Green, not a color often as-
sociated with hair, is present
in most hair, Mrs. Parrott
said, and it must be duplicat-
ed in a hairpiece.
"Once I found 22 different
colors in a girl's hair," she
said, "and it took 45 minutes
to blend her hairpiece."
Half an hour is the usual
time required for the blending
operation, but in a demonstra-
tion Friday, four shades of
blonde and brown were min-
gled in only five minutes for a
perfect match.
Surprisingly, the most diffi-
cult hair color to match is
brown, because there are so
many shades and highlights.
An all-over blend, allowing for
some color change, is the an-
swer, Mrs. Parrott explained.
Girls from pre teen to 80
are all customers for the blen-
ders. Mrs. Parrott recalled
one elderly lady who left
wearing her new chignon,
saying, "Now to find myself at
man!"

Inspires Party

thews, recent bride, was hon-
ored on Wednesday afternoon
at a reception given by Mrs.
Hazard Stay at her home on
Fortson Road.
Miss Ruth Jackson, aunt of
Mrs. Stay and Mrs. Matthews
was also hostess for the
social affair.
Greeting the guests in the
foyer were Mrs. Joe B. Neigh-
bors and Mrs. Thomas Milner

The receiving line in the
drawing room was Miss Jack-
son, Mrs. Stay and the hono-
ree.
Handsome arrangements of
pink sweetheart rosebuds
were used in the foyer and
drawing room.
The tea table was covered
with a beautiful imported li-
nen and lace cloth and cen-
tered with a silver patteau on
a Dresden china base that was
filled with dainty mixed pink
flowers and on either side
were matching Dresden com-
potes. This antique ensemble
is a family heirloom. At one
end was the silver tea service
and at the other an embossed
silver punch bowl.
Serving tea were Mrs. Craig
Orr and Mrs. A. S. Edwards,
Mrs. Charles Rowland Jr.,
and Mrs. King Crawford. At
the punch bowl were Mrs.
William Steedman Jr., Mrs.
Ben Burton, Mrs. Walter Wil-
fon, Mrs. Joe Gaines and Mrs.
Robert Hanna.

called between four and six in
the afternoon.
