Miss JoAn Theresa Lewis,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jo-
seph Lewis of Athens, was
married in Batroun, Lebanon,
on July 31 to Mr. Tony Sall-
Dum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Slei-
man Salloum of Batroun.

The wedding was solem-
nized at Saint Stephens Catho-
lic Church with Monsignor Jo-
seph Feghali of Cleveland,
Dhio, officiating. He was as-
sisted by the Rev. An hony
Hokayem, Father Francis,
The Rev. Semon Estephan,
and the Rev. Joseph Este-
phan.
Mrs. Seyed Khabberz was
the matron of honor.
Mr. Joseph Salloum was his
brother's best man..
The bride was given in mar-
riage by her cousin, Mr. Jo-
seph Hokayem of Gainesville,
Ga. She wore a lovely gown of
embroidered antique satin.
Mr. and Mrs. Sleiman Sall-
oum, the groom's parents, en-
tertained at a reception hon-
oring the couple immediately
following the ceremony.
The home was filled with
gifts of flowers that had been
sent by friends.
The bride's table was cen-
tered with a four tiered choco-
late wedding cake that had
been sent from Tripoli.
Later Mr. and Mrs. Salloum
left for a trip to Laklouk, a
ski resort in the Lebanese
mountains, and then to Tar-
barja Beach on the Mediter-
ranean Sea.
The bride is a graduate of
Athens High School and the
University Hospital School of
Nursing in Augusta.
Mr. Salloum is a graduate.
of Arts et Metiers in Beirut
Lebanon.
Mr. and Mrs. Salloum are

The affair marked their

and Mrs. Harry E. Wilkinson.

Austin A. Barnett Jr.
Mr. and Mrs. DuBose were
married fifty years ago, Oct.
15, 1915 in the evening at a
home ceremony with a recep-
tion afterwards. Mrs. DuBose
was the former Miss Minnie
Thomas, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. George Dudley
Thomas.

For the reception
Wednesday night, Mrs. Du-
Bose wore a pale blue dress
of peau de soie and lace and a
diamond lavalier, given to her
by Mr. DuBose on the night of
their wedding. A white, gold
throated orchid completed her
costume.
Centering on the punch and
coffee table was a beautiful
antique epergne, a silver tree
holding flowers and candles,
and at the base of the tree are
deers by a stream. This tree
is of great sentimental value
and used at family weddings
for six generations.
The epergne belong to Mr.
DuBose's great-grandfather,
General Robert Toombs, who
used it to entertain in Wash-
ington, D.C., while a United
States Senator before the War
Between the States.

The wedding cake was three
tiered and decorated with or-
chids, sweetheart roses and
lily of the valley.
All the tables were covered
with gold satin overlaid with
organdy and lace.
During the evening Mr.
Wesley McKenzie Jr., pres-
ented organ music.
The DuBose's have ten
grandchildren, Mrs. W.
James Jr., Miss Harriet Wil-
kinson and Miss Margaret
Wilkinson of Sumter, S.C.;
Miss Betsy DuBose, Bolling
DuBose III, Misses Mimi and
Camille DuBose of Athens;

Mrs. Rufus Paine, volunteer worker for the
Community Chest Residential Fund Drive,
starts out with four little helpers. They are
Chest Residential Drive Starts Oct. 1
The Residential Drive of the
Athens-Clarke County Com-
munity Chest Fund drive
starts Monday, Oct. 11th. This
annual drive, which incorpo-
rates the efforts of several
hundred women, is headed by
Mrs. D. V. Fech.
Throughout the week these
volunteer workers will be
making house-to-house call
soliciting for the fund drive.
This year's goal for the drive
is $11.269.00. And it is hoped
that the homemakers of Ath-
ens will give as generously as
they can from their budgets
to help continue the fine work
done by the eleven agencies
supported by the Chest.
The district chairmen for
the residential drive are Mrs.
James Scott, Mrs. Leslie P.
Brooks, Mrs. Leon Har-
greaves Jr., Mrs. Henry Par-
sons, Mrs. Ann Horton, Mrs.
