Dottery, Bolling DuBose and C. W. Crook of Athens asked the court for leniency. A petition, signed by a number .of prominent South Carolinians testifying to the previous record of the young man was read in court. R. T. Dot. tery and Bolling DuBose were two of the men from whom Bussey stole cars. The court will resume criminal business Wednesday. The case .of Briggs Carson. young Tifton man charged with shooting a negro may be tried. Young Carson was brought to the Clarke county jail Monday BUSSEY’S FATHER The father of J. P. Bussey, Rev. G. W. Bussey and his wife togeth er with the young man’s were here for the trial. Austin Bell local attorney and C. A. Mays of the law firm of Tillman, Mays and Featherstone, represented him. Just after Bus sey was sentenced Will Goosby, a negro man was given a life sentence for killtng his wife. Goolsby was sentenced to be hanged, last year. An appeal for a new trial wag denied by Judge Fortson but granted by a higher court. Plans for the next year's work will be discussed. The Y. M. C. A. has had a most remarkable year of work and ser vice for the boys and men of Athens of the city and the stu dents in our midst. REALLY GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS Two really great achievements have been successfully communi cated during the past twelve months. First the organizing and carry, ing through to a successful issue the Athens and Clarke County campaign in the University of Georgia Million Dollar War Me morial Fund Drive. Clarke was the wife first county to raise its quota. In five days a large oversubscription had been secured. This splendid achievement was one of the main contributing causes to the raising of the five million dollars by the end of the thirty day drive. ! There was no doubt as to the fact that Athens appreciated and supported the state university and this immediate proof challenged the rest of the state and' alumni elsewhere to. do their part. Y. M. The local delegation will - be the 1 largest ever to attend a state con vention from Athens of the Kiwa nis clubs and every member is expecting an Unusual time in ‘Sa vannah. ' The party will travel over the Central of Georgia and will take a sleeper in Macon, ar. rive in Savannah at 8:30 Thurs day morning,’ be. (there until Friday night at 9:00 when the return trip to Athena will begin, arriving here at 12:10 Saturday, in time for the the Big Georgia-Tennessee game. TO BOOST “HOME COMING DAY One of the features the local delegation will put before the convention and the clubs of the state will be the annual home commg day for Georgia alumni to be Held in Athens upon the date of the Georgia-Vanderbilt game on November 18th, Dr. S. IMPORTANT OFFICERS TO ADDRESS MEET Some of the most prominent Kiwanians of the United States and Canada will be in attendance at the meeting and deliver addres ses. The sessions will be presided over by General Whiter A. Har ris, district Governor and Walter W. Douglas, president of the Savannah club, will be the host officer. Thursday’s program will oc an address by George H. Ross of Toronto, Canada, president of Ki wanis International and Roe Fulk erson, editor of the Kiwanis mag azine, drill also speak that - day. At 2 o'clock A luncheon will be ten dered at the Savannah hotel and an auto ride around the city vrlll be enjoyed and at 4 o’clock the party will go on board the S. S. “Persian” for a fifty mile ocean trip which will Include sup- fier and the evening’s entertain- j ment, consisting of stunts by the different clubs and dancing. Friday morning another busi ness session will be held from 10:00 until 1:30 and then the final business session again in the afternoon when officers and the next convention city will be select ed. The golf tournament and awarding of prizes will take place Friday afternoon and at 6.00 a reception and-tea will be given, at the country club. The entertainment program contains many features for the ladies who will be in attendance. WED.
