In these hard times, when money is so
scarce and consequently so valuable, it is a
question of importance how to make a cer
tain amount do the most good and supply
the greatest number of our wants. Under
these circumstances, the prudent man will
invariably seek the cheapest market. And
hence it is that Howard 6c Kamsaur are now
enjoying so large a patronage, and their
trade constantly increasing. At the outset
these young men determined to sell all lines
of goods at low figures, and by increased
volume of trade to make up for the enor
mous profits realized on goods sold on time.
To those, therefore, who have yet to lay in
their supplies of winter clothing, boots and
shoos, &c., we confidently recommend this
young house, knowing that they can save
money on all bills no matter how small.
“Every little is a help” is true in all things,
and in none is that adage more applicable
than in the purchase of our necessary arti
cles of clothing.
To appreciate Isham Alley’s stock of Dry-
Goods, it is only necessary to sco- them.
Go around ladies and gentleman and in
spect his stock.
GOOD NIOYVS TO EMIGRANTS.

We cheerfully recommend to our citizens,
Dr. D’Alvigny, Jr., of Atlanta, who has
come into our midst for the purpose of prac

old office, where he will be pleased to attend
on all patients desiring work in his line.
Tue finest, prettiest, best and Cheapest
Stock of Dry Goods in town, Isham Alley
has to sell, at his store.
The Town Hall.—As the impression
seems to prevail pretty generally among
our citizens, that the town hall is unsafe,
wo propose that a committee of skillful
mechanics be appointed by the town coun
cil, to investigate the matter, and report
at an early day, so that the fears of th e
nervous may be dismissed or confirm cd.
We have recently examined the walls of
said building, and were surprised to think
that any one should suppose that there is
the least danger of their falling in a hun
dred years, if kept dry ; but our opinion
may be incorrect, and we would like to
have the matter put to rest in the way
above indicated. The ball is large and
c ommodious, and is certainly a great con
venience to our town; and whatever may
be thought of the propriety of its erection
by the town council, it is now a fixed fact
like our fine jail, and we should endeavor
to make it a source of revenue, provided it
is safe to be occupied.
Isham Alley has, in his store, for sale’
many odds and ends that are not usually
ft»nd in a Dry-Goods house.
The Ilev Dr. Boring preached a mo3t
excellent sermon in the Court house on
Sabbath morning last. He visited our
place in the interests of the Orphans’
Home, but owing to the unfavorbleness of
surrounding circumstancec, he thought it
best to defer the object of his mission to
some future time. He earnestly requests
the ladies of our town, and elswhere, where
it is practicable, to organize an “Orphans’
Home Association,” for the benefit, of that
unfortunate class, for which he is laboring
with a zeal so commendable. We
hope our lady friends will consider this
m atter at once, and contribute and solicit
aid for those who are lefr. fatherless and
motherless in a cold, cold world! Cer
tainly no object more worthy can claim
their attention ; and no labor of love prom
ises a richer reward.
'V e expect soon to Canvass Bartow and
surrounding counties for subscriptions to

Prof. Ryan and his son Rolla gave
two entertainments in the Town Hall
last week. The few that were pres

that they were fully compensated
for the small amount invested for ad
mission. The Professor is a fine lec
turer and persouator of character ;
and in the latter capacity, master
Rolla is inimitable. The vagabond

all “ taken off” in a most laughable
manner by the young man.

REUNION OF EVANS' GEORGIA BRIG
ADE-ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGIN
IA.
Mr. Editor: One of the most agreeable
incidents of the great State Fair, was the
reunion of this veteran command of Gen.
Lee’s immortal army, which occurred last
night at the City Hall. The Brigade had
been called together by such a modest no
tice that we, in the pressure of other more
boisterous matters, did not see it in time
to make a proper notice. It is now our
pleasure to recognize this as an event in the
Fair.
The object, had in view was apparently a
reunion of these men who had followed
Gordon under Stonewall, and Evans un
der Early, through the campaigns of the
Army of Virginia, and for another pur
pose, viz : the organization of a benevolent
institution, designed to relieve the suffer
ing, and to preserve the records of this
gallant command.
Gen. Evans is now no longer a messen
ger of the War God, but a bearer of “ the
glad tidings of peace.” Reverently, brave
ly and honestly as he surrended his sword
to physical powers, has he taken upon
himself the obligations of a warrior under
the banner of the Cross, and here, at this
reunion, we found the “ lion and the lamb”
united in one man.
The Brigade, composed of the 13th Ga.,
26th Ga., 31st Ga., 38th Ga., 60th Ga, and
Cist Ga. Regiments, and 12th Ga. Battal
ion, through their representative members,
were assembled once again, not to receive
orders for war, under the passion of polit’-
cians, but for the purposes of peace.
After a most cordial, real honest soldier
greeting, Gen. Evans was called to the
Chair, and with the piety of his brave
heart he unfolded the object had in view,
to-wit : the union of this Brigade to be
stow its benevolence on the needy widows
and orphans, to preserve the records of the
old command, and to preserve the spirit
in which they fought for “the land we
love,” and in which they have since illus
trated it in pence.
The following were appointed as com
mittees to report at the next meeting of the
Brigade, and were charged with the duty
of reporting on their several departments:
Muster Rolls and Adjutants’ Reports. —
Col. J. T. Lowe, Lt. Col. Capers, Lt- Col.
Davant, Capt S. 11. Crump.
Organization and Constitution. -Lieut. Col.
Capers, Capt. E. W. Croker, Lieut. W. D.
McArthur.
Benefactions —Col. Jones, Col. Baker,
Capt. Howard.
Executive Committee. —Gen. Evans, Col.
J. M. Smith, Col. H. D. Capers, Col. Baker,
Maj. Hanby, Lieut. Eugene Jeffers, Lieut-
Col. Davant, Geo. W. Sims, Capt. E. W.
Croker, Col. Crowder, Capt. Howard.
The next meeting of the Brigade was
called for Atlanta, on the 26tli day of April,
when the reports of the Committees are ex
pected as full as possible.
In the meantime, all' communications
containing any matter of interest to this
gallant command, are requested to be seut
to Gen. C. A. Evans, Atlanta, Ga., or to
either member of the several Committees
above mentioned, who will forward them
to headquarters.
Thus have we attempted to report one of
the most interesting, and in our judgment,
one of the most important meetings held
in Macon siDce this wonderful Fair com
menced.
We are certain that the press will re
spond to a request made to copy this and
grant every facility possible for accom
plishing the objects had in view by these
men, to whom we owe more than we could
express, even should we attempt it.
October 26th, 1871.
The above was written during the late
Fair, but circumstances prevented its pub
lication until now.—Ed. Ocr Saturday
Night.
The many citizens throughout this sec
tion of the State who belonged to this gal
lant old Brigade, will, doubtless, rejoice at
this forthcoming opportunity of meeting
with, and enjoying the friendly greetings
of, their old fellow-comrades once in arms,
but now engaged in the peaceful pursuits
of life, where they can together sit down
and recount the perils and sufferings, and
joys and sorrows of the past, while heroic
ly struggling for the Lost Cause. We
constituted one of that number. Wish it to
be known and read of all men. Let us,
one and all, prepare for the meeting in At
lanta, on the 26th day of April next. W'e
will anticipate that meeting with much
pleasure and auxietj 7 . There were two
companies made up from this and adjoining
counties, in the 60th Ga. Regiment of this
Brigade, to,wit: Company I and company
K. The former commanded by Capt. M.
A. Leake, and (he latter by Capt. W'm. H.
Howard; subsequently by Capts. Stiles,
Phillips, and Lieuts. Rice, Owens, Gold
smith, Couper, and Hagan, all of whom, we
believe, thoagh scarred aud maimed, are
still in the land of the living, while c any of
their brave commands lie scattered from the
Isle of Hop« below Savannah, Ga., to the
Plains of Gettysburg, Pa.
ffood ilotir.

Those Side-Walks Once Moke !
Some of our citizens are still com
plaining of the partiality which is
shown by the town council in working
side-walks. They declare that the
fact is apparent to the most casu
al observer. Our motto is, “ equal
rights to all, exclusive privileges to
none. ” There is no reason why there
should be tiny discrimination in this
matter. All who pay their taxes for
certain conveniences are justly entitled
to them according to the plainest
principle of law. Come gentlemen,
give us something like justice, or if it
is your settled determination to give
us the go-by, say so, and we will fix up
our side-walks ourselves.

the system, and renovate the feeble, fainting
powers of nature. Its operation upon the
tissues of the body does not consist in affecting
the ityitability of the living fibre, but in im
parting a sound and healthy stimulus to the
Vital Organs.
It strengthens substantially and
durably the living powers of the
animal machine; is entirely innocent
and harmless ; may be administered
with impunity to both sexes, and all
conditions of life.
There is no disease of any name or nature,
whether of youngjor old, male or female, but
that it is proper to administer it, and if it be
done seasonably and perseveringly, it will have
a good effect. It is perfeetly incredible to
those unacquainted with the Bitters, the facil
ity with which a healthy action ia often in the
worst cases restored to the exhausted organs of
the system , with a degre of animation and
desire for food, which is perfectly astonishing
to all who perceire it. This Medicine purifies
the blood, restores the tonic power of the
fibres, and of the stomach and digestiye organs;
rouses the animal spirits, and substantially for
tifies and reanimates the broken down consti
tutions of mankind.
Indians are the most healthy of the human
race. take ae abundance of phvsioal ex
ercise, breathe pure air, and live on simple diet.
When sick, they use no mineral poisons, but
select roots, herbs, and plants “ from the great
drug store of their Creator.” McCutchiox’*
“ Chirokk* Indian Bitters” is a combination
of these vegetable substances which render it
entirely innocent and harmless to the constitu
tion of the most delicate male, or female. The
wonderful power which these “ Bitters” are
known to possess in curing diseases, evinces to
the world that it is without a parallel in the
history of medicine, and afford additional evi
dence that the great benefactors of the country
are not always found in the temples of wealth
nor the mazy walks of science, but among the
hardy sons of Nature, whose original, untutor
ed minds, unshackled by the forms of aci ence
are left free to pursuo the dictate* of reason,
truth, and common sense.
Since the introduction of this remedy into
the United States, thousands have been raised
from beds of affliction whose lives were de
spaired ot by their physicians and pronounced
beyond the reach of medicine. McCutcheon’*
“ Cherokee Bitters” has driven the most popu
lar medicines of everr name, like chaff before
a whirlwind, from almost every citv, town and,
village where it has been introducad, and is
destined ere long to convince the world that
the red mans remedies arc the white man 1 *
choice. For diseases peculiar to the female
sex there is nothing bet ter. Old and young,
male and female, have all been greatlv benefit
ted by its use. Hundreds of certificates, from
all parts of the United States, which are enti
tled to the fullest confidence, speak of it in the
most favorable manner. These are not only
from persons who have been cured bv it, but
•Iso from some of the most eminent physicians
and druggists who have succerafiiUv te*ted it
in their practice and voluntarily offer their tes
timonial* in its favoi. For sale bv „U Dealer*.
