Our thanks are due to the “laboring men'’
connected with the Steam Works of Messrs,
Z. W. L M C. Jackson & Cos., of this place,
for the handsome contribution they made
towards paying the rent of the Methodist
parsonage of the Cartersrille Circuit, for
the year 1870. Talk about colonizing such
men ! Since we come to think, about it, we
don’t know but that it would be right to
make this disposition of them, but, by all
means, let’* eoloniae them in our midst; they
constitute the back-bone and sinew of our
cities, towns and villages, as the farming
class constiruie the name of the entire coun
try. Show ns a city, town or village with
out ••mechanic*,” and we will show you a
place that am 1 worth the dirt it stands up
on; but, on the contrary, show us a place
settlad up with tliviu, and we will show you
a place where tbe hum and buzz of industry
seldom die* away. The idea lias obtained
in loot communities that mechanics are not
fit for rafined society ! God pity such com
munities! There is more science, ingenuity
ami thill developed in mechanical pursuits,
thaw it found demonstrated in all other call
inga together. The greatest improve
ment* vs the age are attributable to the in
genuity of shilled mechanics. Brains ami
mechanism arc one and inseparable. The
individual or community who would under
irate a man’s social standing because he
chooaes a mechanical pursuit in life, would
sip the tweet* of flowers and censure tho
A-arth that bor* them. Mechanical skill und
agenuity has abortened distances, lightened
burdeas, aa<l systematized lubor, until the
Wi>vle world stands amazed and enraptured
at it progress. Some people are already
diacw**i«ig the moral aspects of labor-saving
machinery and implements, the results of
mechanical genius, contending that it is an
effort to vet at defiance a special decree of
«"d. Mat ••man sh.uld live by the sweat of
his fac*.’ Pursuing the same line of argu
m**»t we have heard people express their
double as to the righteousness of the cus
tons ab |i> eJ by the people of the nineteenth
century, in hurrying the dead in air tight
jwet*li« cases or caskets, contending that it
j* an «U >rt # oti the part of frail, sinful man,
?o avoid a like decree of Deity, “from dust
itjjoy art created stud unto dust slialt thou
roturn apsaa.” I’he ingenuity of man in
calculating cause* and determining effects
to the finite mind is inexplicable—in other
• orda, wian's iiigicauity is a mystery to him
self. |t is believed and asserted that the
ingenuity of mankind of the present day lias
been developed to such an extent, that he
could make a duplicate of himself if he
could breathe into its nostrils the breath of
life. An old lady once visited a cotton fac
tory and saw it in full operation. After
ascending and descending several flights of
stairsteps, and looking at the thousand aud
one little buzzing wheels and spindles, and
teeing the bands crossing each other and
revolving in all directions, siie was struck
with wonder and amazement, and just as
she was about to leave was heard to mutter
to herself “The works of God are great, but
she works of man are greater!”

FEMALE COMPLAINT,
That claims its victims throughout the length
and breadth of our land.
Many females suffer in some way at each mon
thly period; some girls are in great peril at the
commencement of menstruation, whiM older
ones dread its decline at the "turn of life.”—
Sometimes the menstrual Mow is too muck, or
too little, or may he attended with pain; may he
irregular or entirely checked, or changed in
appearance, attended with other distressjng
symptoms. Leueorrhua. or the "Whites,"’, fro
(|'uently drains the system, or ulceration of the
womb may create pain and cause rapid prostra
tion.
Falling of the womb is an exceedingly com
mon complaint, giving much trouble and dis
tress, which, under ordinary treatment, is diffi
cult to cure.
Hysterics, (liven Sickness. Irritability of the
Womb, and other serious and fatal complaints
follow tine female sex throughout life. Lives
there a medical gentleman who has or can re
lieve the fair sex of tin* above troubles? Not
many. Is there no combination of remedial a
gents that will come to her rescue ? We answer,
Yes.
ENGLISH FEMALE BITTERS,
The onlv acknowledged rterine Tonic and Fe
male Regulator known, will cure all those com
plaints above mentioned in an incredibly short
time. The Hitters at once .amuses, strengthens
and restores the womb to its natural condition,
removing obstruct ions, relieving pain and reg
ulating the monthly period. Yonder stands a
pale, feeble and languid girl, just bursting into
w omanhood; she is the pride of sill, but bark !
site silently steals a pickle, eats chalk, or a date
pencil; no appetite for food; she turns with .a
dull eve and seeks solitude; her eye no longer
sparkles; her merry laugh is no longer heard
ringing through the air; she mopes about with
bloodless lips and gums, with headache, palpi
tation, con-tipation, swimming of the head, cold
feet and hands, melancholy; she has a coated
tongue, offensive breath, and a host of other e
