H*§,What Taxes Expire in Octorer.
Asa matter of public interest we state that
taxes on gross receipts and sales, except
those on tobacco, spirits, and wines, will ex

incomes over $2,000 will be per cent.—
After that date, the use of stamps on prom

receipts, checks, drafts, will expire. On
deeds, leases, and contracts, the tax remains.

Life Insurance. —Two hundred and
fifty millions of dollars are invested in
life insurance by our people at the
present moment, and this vast sum is
being augmented at the rate of fifty or
sixty millions of dollars a year. The

in the United States represent the fu

Let every one bring so nethiuj; ladies,
bring your quilts, counterpanes h in

ings, engravings and lithographs, bring
them, and they will add much to the
interest of the Fair. Lit each one
feel that tile success of the Fair de

Wo doubt not, a Urge crowd will be .
on hand—perhaps the largest so n to

Come, ejnie, from Lull and dale, fioni
valley and m uuitain, come and see.— |
Judge Lochrane, an eloquent gentle- j

the admittance to hear him.
We learn that trains will run every
few minutes from town to tiie Fair

Sell before it reaches 12 cents. Wheat

Business Like.— Quantities of cotton,
flour, wheat and lumber are already
being brought on the Cartersviile &

daily. Already the practical fruits of
this enterprise are apparent, and when
it shall be completed to the great Slate
quarries, and connect with the Selma
Road at Cross plains, in Alabama, it
will be seen that it will be a complete
success. On with the road.

TOII£IGi\ T ANARUS,
Tours, September 24.—The follow
ing news is official: A proclamation
has been promulgated to France be
fore the siege of Paris. Jules Favre
desired to see Bismarck to know the
intention of the enemy. The follow
ing is the declaration af the enemy;
Prussia wishes to contiuue the war in
order to reduce France to a second
rate power. Prussia demands Alscace
and Loraine. Prussia, before con
senting to the armistice, demands the
rendition of Strasbnrg, Toul and want
Valegne. Paris is exasperated, and
would rather bury herself beneath her
own ruins. To such insolent preten
sions we can respond by resistance to
the last extremity. France accepts
the struggle and counts upon her
children. Signed by Cremiux, Glais,
Bazaino and Laurichan.
John Kelly.— We simply desire to
call attention to the fact that one of
the finest, cheapest and most extensive
assortments of dry goods can be found
at the well-kuown establishment of
Mr. Keely, corner of Whitehall and
Hunter streets. His goods are finish,
choice, and of the best manufacture
and chastest design. He sells at
small profit and is determined to mer
it the continuous patronage-* of the,
public. We call special attention of
ladies to his large and unique stock of
English black alpacas. do and in
spect them, and read his advertise
ment.
—
Millinery anil Dress-Making.
We invite attention U, tile double
columu advertisement of Mrs. and Miss
Crandall, who have just opened a New Mil
linery and Dress-Making Establishment in
Cartersviile, in the store-room recently oc
cupied by J. T. Guthrie, Stock’s Building
where they are now opening out un entire
new stock of Millinery Goods, and invite
the ladies of Cartersviile and all the sur
rounding country, to cull and see them and
examine their goods, styles, work and pri
ces. They have come into our midst with
the view of establishing themselves in busi
ness, and supplying our people with goods
and work that they have heretofore been
compelled to go abroad to get. They prom
ise to make it to tiie advantage of all to pat
ronize them. We bespeak for them a liber
al share of the trade and patronage or our
people, both in town and country.
ggL.We take pleasure in coinuiend
in to the patronage of the people of Bartow
county and Cherokee Georgia, Messrs. Hun
nicutt k Bellknorath, of Atlanta, whose
advertisement appears elsewhere in this pa
per, and who are dealers in Look and Heat
ing Stoves, Grates, Tin-Ware, Tinner’s
Trimmings, Slate Mantles, Wrought Iron
Pipes for steam, gas and water, Burners,
and sheet metals; they are also Plumbers,
steam and gas Fitters, coppersmiths and
sheet iron workers, and roofers. Mr. Ilun
nicutt was formerly a citizen of this county,
and, we hesitate not to say, is as clever one
as ever lived in it. Both these gentlemen
are honest, fair-dealing and industrious,
which fact all men can prove by having
dealings with them.
Bg&»Wiiilo in Atlanta, lost week, we
met up with our long-tried friend and form
er fellow-townsman, W. A. Mitchell, better
known here as “Siiah,” who informed us
that he was certainly a man of business.—
He is running the cotton buying and selling,
and ware-house and commission business,
and his Sack Factory, and a Boarding House
in the bargain; and he seems to flourish
under them all.

Yes.
ENGLISH FEMALE BITTERS,
rsa? .'.Sgl
The only acknowledged Uterine .Tonic and Fe
male Regulator known, will cure all those com
plaints above mentioned in an incredibly short
time. The Bitters at once arouses, strengthens
and restores the womb to its natttrttl condition,
removing obstructions, relieving p.ajn and reg
ulating the monthly period. Yonder stands a
pale, feeble and languid girl, just bursting into
womanhood; she is the pride ot all, but hark !
she silent]v steals a pickle, eats chalk,-or a slate
pencil; no appetite for food; she.turns with a
dull eve and seeks solitude; her eve, yo longer
sparkles; her merry laugh is no longer heard
ringing through the air; she mopes about with
bloodless lips and gums, with headache, palpi
tation, constipation, swimming of tin* head, cold
feet and hands, melancholy; she has a coated
tongue, oil'ensive breath, and a host of other c
vils too numerous to mention.
When neglected all these symptoms become
aggravated, there is sick stomach, heartburn,
a dark line settles under the eyes, the logs and
and ankles are swollen, the hair loses its gloss
and falls oft’, there is brittleness and splitting of
the finger-nails, swollen abdomen, extreme
nervousness, fretful ness, pains and aches, dry
cough, Hysterical fits, rapid prostration, epilep
sy and death! If you. or any of your friends,
are thus afflicted, send at once fora Bottle of
English Female Hitters and he cured. Its effects
are magical in such complaints. Surely no mo
ther will postpone and delay this duty until
DEATH IS AT THE DQOR.
In all these complaints the system evidently
shows'a want ol‘red blood, and Mr. Churchill,
in his work on Diseases ot Females, says:—
“Bearing in mind that the blood is remarkably
deficient in red corpuscles, find the known pro
perty of iron to correct this condition, theory
suggests it as the most to be relied on, the best
of which is the Citrate.” Citrate of Iron enters
largely into the composition of English T ern ale
Bitters, combined with powerful vegetable tpn
ies of rave qualities.
Among the mountains of Tennessee and the
pinev woods of Mississippi, is found a cei tain
hard' and flinty root, which has been in secret
use by some midwives for many years, possess
ing magic powers in regulating and restoring
all female suffering with any affection ot the
womb. This root we have obtained, gave it a
fair test in our practice and it is now one ot the
principal ingredients in these Hitters. Other
powerful uterine and general tonics also enter
into itsc ouiposition. VVe also ; add Leptandiaoi
Hlack root, sufficient to act upon the liver and
keep the bowels open.

Middle-aged matrons, those at the critical peri
od, and the aged grandmother, are all cured by
thereof our English Female Hitters, now pre
scribed and used, by physicians all over the
country.
If you are troubled with Fallingof the Womb,
attended with a sense of weight and hearing
down pain in the back and side, and ptbfir at
tendant evils, English Female Hitter? i\ ill give
entire relief.
Those at the “turn of life,” mothers after con
finement, and all others (male or female) who
are convalescents from any protracted or debil
itating complaint, who gain strength slowly,
and whose digestion is slow and imperfect, will
find these Hitters the very thing their system
demands. It gives a powerful appetite, bids
and assists digestion, arouses the.liver, strength

system with’ pure crimson blood coursing thro’
its channels.
COMMOM GROG-SHOP BITTERS.
Empty Bitter Bottles, of various styles, can be
found around almost every dwelling and cabin
throughout the land. Their taste is pleasant,
and are artrertiwl to cure almost every disease,
while the manufacturers knoir tin y possess no
medicinal properties whatever. They are so
many disguises for ejected!tight conmon bererrtyes
which do not, nor cannot possibly cure any one.
Beware of these pleasant bitters in quart bot
tles, they contain a stingier your vitals, and he
who buys them carries a “toper's grog” into his
house. One man who knows nothing* about me
dicine. savs his big bottles of common stuff will
cure chills and fever, rheumatism and consump
tion; another, whose bottles are very fanev,
cures all the impurities of the blood, makes old
men voting, casts out devils, restores sight to
the blind, and numerous other miracles; While
yet another, who presumes every man a drunk
ard, proposes to cure riolic. ingrowing nails, yel
low fever, heart disease and love-sick maidens!!
We know they make no such cures, we know the
people at large are deceived and swindled, and
as we dosire to ventiate these common humbugs,
make tit? following challenge to one and all :
