Our Laud,
From the address of the Tennessee Tl em
cratic Executive Committee to the people of
the State, we extract the following lines.—
No Southern man earn read them, without
feeling their applicability to his -‘own, his
native land:”
* * “The land of the wreck .and the tomb—
There fs grandeur j u graves, there is glory in
gloom; £ , *-‘Y •• 1 4, bff A
For out of the gloom future brightness is born,
As after the night looms the blight coming
morn, * y
And the gravest of the dead With grass over
grown,
May yet prove the footstool of Liberty’s throne,
And each single wreck in the war path of might,
Will yet make a rook in the temple of right.”

LOCAL ITEAXS-
After a slight shower, we again have
those lovely, clear autumnal days upon
us. Such a fall we have not seen since
1835. Now for cotton picking and
wheat sowing, and grateful hearts fcfr
this charming weather.
Fire is dangerous; do .one of two
things, insure your gin houses, or gin
your cotton and sell it. it makes one
feel quite blank to have five or ten
bales of cotton burnt up and no insur
ance. A little precaution saves us ma
ny a loss.
Now is a good time to pay your
debts. Those debts made during the
summer for necessary articles tfie mer
chant sold you. Kememb j' theje is
no claim on you but honor. Our mer
chants are ruined men if your honor
fails. They have no laws to enable
them to collect debts. Wo are pleased
to notice that some of our noble peo
ple are discharging their liabilities.—
As to holding cotton for better prices,
before paying oiT your merchants, it is
not fair, they have already waited
about as long as they can. Now this
would be an honest, equitable way to
act. Sell off chough of your cotton to
pay off your debts and hold the re
maining portion for the rise, if it should
come.
Young man’, don’t sav it any more!
That oath; it sounded harshly; it dis
honored that God your mother loved,
and, if living, still loves. No, let sw r eet
words come from your heart and
mouth, but r ever again another oath. —
“I will not hold him guiltless that tak
eth my name in vain.” After reading
this, resolve, in the strength of God,
never to curse again. Never.
The precious revival at the Baptist
and Methodist churches is still pro
gressing with renewed interest. The
‘‘Lord is surely on the giving hand.”—
Many have been blessed, and now re
joice in hope. To God be all the hon
or and glory. W e trust the good work
will go on until the whole town is un
der the influence of the holy spirit.
Cotton Wanted. — A number of or
ders from cotton spinners are in town j
and cotton is in demand at cents.
Bring it along before it gets to 121 or
10 cents. It weighs well now, and the
present weight and prices are equal to
15 cents in the spring. Who doubts
it.
Erwin street is to be extended soon
westwurJly half a mile. We hope to
see Main street extended to Col.
Young’s soon.
Corn, Wheat and pork are abundant
in Baffow county.
Now’ that the leaves are falling, haul
them to your stables and lots, and
manufacture a good crop of manure by
the spring. It will agree with your
land and crops,

Hie Republican majority in Illinois
is about 20,000. The Congressional
delegation is probably the same as that
of last year.
The tenth and twelfth districts are
claimed by both parties.
Merrick is-elected from Maryland)
though the Republicans still claim the,
first and fifth districts, but doubtful,
probabilities favor a clean Democratic
delegation from Maryland.
Kentucky gives a clear D< mocratic
delegation. The majorities are some
what reduced.
The Legislature of New Jerse j y and
four Congressmen are claimed by the
Republicans.
Nothing definite from Arkansas.
Conflicts between Federal and State
1 auslionties are reported at several
points.
It rained in Missouri during the af
ternoon. As far as heard from, Brown
is vastly ahead.
The Thirtieth District of New York
is Democratic again. The Fourth New
York District elects McMahon, a young
Democrat. The Eighth District elects
Brooks, a Tammany Democrat. In
the Ninth District, Cox b<fiits Greeley
by only one thousand.
Iu the First Missouri District, Wells
is re-elected by 1,000 majority. In the
Second, Finklenburg, liberal Republi
can, is re-elected. In the Third, Mc-
Coi mick, i emocrat, is re-elected.
The Republicans made heavy gains
in iianssa.
The Conservatives carried the Rich
mond municipal election by a small ma
jority.
The election passed off quietly. The
Federal troops did not approach the
polls.
Hoffman’s majority in New York ci
ty is 50,000. The Tiibune gives Hoff
man 30,000.
A private dispatch from Jackson
ville, Florida, says that two hundred
men drove the whites and blacks, in
cluding the candidates for Lieutenant
Governor and the Legislature, from
Lake City.
Returns show a decreased Republi
can majority in Florida.
New Jersey elects a Democrat in the
second district. The Democrats lose
one. A close calculation gives the
Democrats in yesterday’s elections, and
those already held, twenty-five Demo
cratic gain. 'The Democrats in the
next House will be 92 against 07 in
the present House. This list includes
no hermaphrodites.

FOR THlttl'Y YEARS
Has that well-known, standard, and popular
remedy,
PAIX KILLER,
manufactured by Perry Davis <fc Son, Provi
dence, R. 1., been before the public, and in
that time has becorqe known in all parts of
the world, and been used by people of all
nations.
It remains, to day, that same good and ef
ficient remedy. Its wonderful power in re
lieving the most severe pain has never been
equaled, aud it has earned its world-wide
popularity by its intrinsic merit. IS’o cura
tive agent has so wide spread sale or given
such universal satisfaction. The various ills
for which the; Pain Killer is an unfailing
cure, are too well known to require a capit
ulation in this advertisement. As an exter
nal and internal medicine, the Pain Killer
stands unrivaled. Directions accompany
each bottle.
Sold by all Druggists.
Price 2-3 cts., 30 ets., and $1 per bottle.
A Body mid Mind Disease.
Such is dyspepsia. The stomach aud the
brain are too intimately allied for the one to
suffer without the other, so that dyspepsia
and despondency are inseperable. It may be
added, too, that irritation of the stomach is
almost invariably accompanied by irritation
of the temper.
The invigorating and tranquillizing ope
ration of Hosf otter’s Bitters is most powerful
ly developed In cases of indigestion. The
first effect of this agreahle tonic is comforting
and encouraging. A mild glow pervades the
system, the chronic uneasiness in the region
of the stomach is lessened, and the nervous
restlessness which characterizes the disease
isabated. This improvement is not transient.
It is not succeeded by the return of the old
symtoms with superadded force, as is always
the case when unmedicated stimulants are
given for the complaint. Each dose seems to
impart a permanent accession of healthful in
vigoration. But this is not all 'The aperi
eut and anti-bilious properties of the prepa
ration are scarcely secondary in importance
to its tonic virtues. If there is an overflow
of bile the secretion is soon brought within
proper limits, and if the bileary organ is in
ert and torpid it is toned and regulated.
The effect upon the discharging organs is
equally salutary, and in cases of constipa
tion the cathartic action is just sufficient to
produce the desired result gradually and
without pain. Ike Bitters also promote
healthy evaporation from the surface which
particularly desirable at this season wheu
sudden spells of raw unpleasant weather are
apt to check natural perspiration and produce
congeston of the liver, coughs and colds.—
The best safegaurd against all diseases is bodily
vigor , and this the great Vegetable Restora
tive essentially promotes.
Females, old and young, who have so long
been troubled with some female complaint
should not despair. Let us whisper words
of comfort. You can be cured. You can be
snatched from the monster which has so
long prostrated and paralyzed your whole
system. Y r ou can regain your health, your
beauty, your strength and buoyancy. Take
courage, despair not, be cheerful; a romedy
is at hand, prepar and by experienced physi
cians, specially for just such diseases as af
flict you; and as the profession are using
and prescribing this remedy with much suc
cess, we feel proud in calling your attention
to it. It ccmes highly recommended, and
we earnestly advise all suffering females to
use this great lemale medicine at once. —

FEMALE COMPLAIMr'"'
■W.M-aagSTV >jm ■sxwvmm
That claims if* victims throughout the length
and breadth of our laud.
Many females suffer in some way at each mon
thly period; some girls are in great peril at the
oommeneement of menstruation, whild older
ones dread its decline at the “turn of life.”
Sometimes the menstrual flow is too much, or
too little, or may ho attci led with pain; muv he
irregular or entirely checked, or changed in
appearance, attended with other distressing
symptom*. Letie.Ori'luea, or the “Whites,’, fre
quently drains the system, or ulceration of the
womb may create paiu aud cause rapid prostra
tion.
Falling of the womb is an exceedingly com
mon coni plaint, giving lunch trouble wild dis
tress, which, under ordinary treatment, is diffi
cult to cure.
Hysterics, Green Sickness, Irritability of the
Womb, and other serious and fatal complaint*
follow the female sex throughout life. Live*
there a medical gentleman who has or can re
lieve the fair sex of the above troubles? Not
many. Is there no combination of remedial a
gents that will come to her rescue ? Wo answer,
Vcs.
ENGLISH FETrrTTT^:
The only acknowledged Uterine Tonic and Fe
male Regulator known, will cure all those com
plaints abovementioned in an incredibly short
time. The Ritters at once arouses, strengthens
and restores the womb to its natural condition,
removing obstructions, relieving pain and reg
ulating the monthly period. Yonder stands a
pale, feeble and languid girl, just bursting into
womanhood; she is the pride of all, but nark!
she silently steals a pickle, eats chalk, or a slate
pencil; no appetite for food; she turns with a
dull eve and seeks solitude; her eve no longer
sparkles: her merry laugh is no longer heard
ringing through the air; she mopes about with
bloodless lins and gums, with headache, palpi
tation, constipation, swimming-of the head, cold
feet and hands, melancholy; she has a coated
tongue, offensive breath, and a host of other e
vils too numerous to mention.
When neglected all these symptoms become
aggravated, there is sick stomach, heartburn,
a dark line settles under the <.yes, the legs and
and ankles are swollen, the hair loses its gloss
and falls off. there is brittleness and splitting ot
the finger-nails, swollen abdomen, extreme
nervousness, fretful nesß, pains and aches, dry
cough. Hysterical fits, rapid prostration, epilep
sy and death ! If you. or any of your friend*,
are thus afflicted, send at once for a I’ottle of
English Female* Bitters and he cured. Itsoffeei*
are magical hi such complaints. Surely no mo
ther will postpone and delay this duty until
DEATH IS AT THE DOOR. _
In all these complaints the system evidently
shows a want of red blood, and Mr. Churchill,
in his work on Diseases of Females, says:—
1 “Bearing in mind that the blood is rcmaikably
deficient in red corpuscles, find the known pro
perty of iron to correct this condition, theory
suggests it as the most to be relied on, the best
of which is the Citrate.” Citrate of iron enters
largely into the composition of English Female
Bitters, combined with powerful vegetable ton
ics of rare qualities.
Among the mountains of Tennessee and the
piney woods of Mississippi, is found a certain
hard and flinty root, which has been in secret
use by some niidwives for many years, possess
ing magic powers in regulating and restoring
all female suffering with any affection of tho
womb. This root \vc have obtained, gave it a
fair test in our practice and it is now one of the
principal ingredients in these Bitters. Other
powerful uterine and general tonics also enter
into itsc omposition. We also add Loptandra or
Black root, sufficient to act upon the liver and
keep the bowels open,
BLOOMING YOUNG GIRLS.
Middle-aged matrons, those at the critical peri
od. and the aged grandmother, are all cured bv
the use of our English Female Bitters, now > re
scribed and used by physicians all over the
country.
If you are troubled with Falling of Hie Womb,
attended with a souse of weight and hearing
down pain in the back and side, and other at
tendant evils, English Female BittCrs will give
entire relief.
Those at the “turn of life,” mothers after con
finement, and all others (male or female) who
