Don't be a Clam. Don’t be n clam. Keep up with the precession. 110 not kick against things. Talk up your town. Go to the public meetings, whether to express sympathy lor down-trodden Ireland or to restore the steamboats to their much needed work. Do not predict another freshet tomor row or a couple of earthquakes next week. Do not see a job in every public work or a scamp in every official. Do not try to dispiritevery enterprising man as soon os he shows his head. Do not criticise a man as soon as he shows him self a leader. This town needs those kind of working, pushing, resourceful men and needs them badly. Do not kick a man when he is down. Help him up. Do not refuse a neighbor a favor. Help on all sides to restore public confidence. Do not predict the ruin of the country because a Republican is President. Do not spot an enemy in every man who conies from a distance or who disagrees with you in politics. ' Be sanguine, be amiable, be temperate, be tolerant, be sympathetic, be enter prising, beconfideut, be whole-souled uud happy. And don’t be a clam. Disease is the center of weakness.
