The Wiregrass Farmer, December 28, 2005 - Page 5 Church news Special movie at Bethel Bethel Baptist Church will be showing “The Climb” Sunday evening, Jan. 1, at 6 p.m. Donnie Duncan, Pastor invites everyone to attend. “The Climb” is the harrowing story of two solo rock climbers, Michael Harris (Ned Vaughn) and Derrick Williams (Jason George), who meet on a daring rescue. The man saved in the rescue is the son of retail mogul Mack Leonard (Dabney Coleman) who rewards Michael and Derrick with a dream climb at Mount Chicanagua. The two highly esteemed climbers approach the sport very differently. Michael is a safety-conscious plodder driven by the beauty of creation. His goal is to reach the summit, and take whatever precautions necessary. Derrick is a flamboyant self-promoter bent by anger. He’s a risk taker and will reach his dream at any cost. A clash of pride, styles and character put both of their lives on the line. Join us for “The Climb”, Bethel Baptist Church, 4234 GA HWY 32 E, Sycamore, Georgia. He was and will be I need not remind you that 2005 is quickly coming to an end. All that we have accom plished or experienced has become part of the history of 2005. Over the next few days we will hear the major events of the old year revisited. Even though the media will not inter view every average American to see what the year yielded for us, each of us will likely do some form of reflecting back on 2005. Hopefully there will be a lot of positive and benefi cial things to remember; no doubt there have been some setbacks and disappointments as well. As we look back at 2005 and prepare for 2006,1 encour age each of us to take time to remember the unchanging nature of God. He has proven Himself to be reliable at all times and under all circum stances. He has been trustwor thy in years gone by, He will continue to be trustworthy in the New Year. The prophet Micah in the Old Testament records a thought that is worth taking with us into 2006: “Who is a God like you, Who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheri tance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy” (Micah 7:18, NIV). Inspiration There is none other that com pares to Him! There may be many so-called gods, and there are things that take the status of a god in many lives, but there is but one true and living God. What He has been He will con tinue to be. God has been and will con tinue to be forgiving. His will ingness to forgive should be especially fresh upon our minds after our celebration of Christmas. It was for the pur pose of providing a plan for our forgiveness that Christ came to earth 2000 years ago. His forgiveness continues to be available to all who will believe upon Jesus Christ. God has been and will con tinue to be merciful. Micah says that He will “not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy” (7:18). It is the mercy of God that spares us from the divine judgment that we deserve. Then Micah points out that God has been and will continue to be compassionate (verse 19). Our world is a cruel one that lacks an abundance of compas sion. Yet God in His love and compassion reached down to humankind and offered com passion that was neither earned nor deserved. Micah concludes his book by reminding us that God has been and will continue to be faithful: “You will be true to Jacob, and show mercy to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our fathers in days long ago” (7:20). God is a keeper of His promises. May we not only enter into 2006 assured that God is unchanging, but may we also purpose to enter into the New Year with a determination to have more of God’s character being reflected in our daily liv ing. Ask God to enable you to be more forgiving, merciful, compassionate, and faithful. While none of us will achieve these attributes to the perfect degree that God possesses them, they are good goals to seek to become more fully developed in our lives as we draw closer to God. /^^NWant More Interest?
