A donor sign-up sheet will be provided for donors to sign in for their church. The first blood drive in 2006 will be Thursday, January 19, from 2 pm until 7 pm at the Turner County Civic Center. As you have seen on televi sion and in the newspapers, the blood supplies across the nation are critically low, there fore, the Red Cross is appeal ing to the county churches to help alleviate this shortage. GANG (Continued from Page 1) criminal activity won’t be tolerated. “They know. We’ve been locking them up,” Lt. Yarbrough said. “It’s like a wildfire. If you don’t put it out, it will corrupt everything.” The APD has been aware for some time that a growing gang presence was in Ashburn. Gang-related graffiti has been seen on buildings and reports of gang-recruiting efforts are common. Lt. Yarbrough said the Folks and Pearls, a male and female division in the same overall gang, have organized now and have a recognized leadership structure. As for those who don’t accept the fact Ashburn has a formalized gang, the lieutant pointed to a growing stack of evidence compiled after last week’s fight. “When you have an elderly grandmother come in and tell you who the gang members are and their names, that re-affirms times 10 there is a gang prob lem,” he said. Gang members can be rec ognized, in part, because they dress completely in black. Black shirts and coats, black pants and black shoes. Lt. Yarbrough said everyone arrested so far in connection with the fight was wearing all black. ATTACK (Continued from Page 1) was beaten just because he was from Rochelle and was told to not come back to Ashburn, he added. Eight people are charged and more are expected to be charged following a fight Monday, Dec. 26, in the 600 Allen's Tire Service 1-75 & Bussey Rd Open 6 days Free repairs & rota tion on sets of four 567-3390 block of W. Germaine Wilson, AKA Pig, DOB, 7/19./77, no address given, charged with aggravated assault. Speaking in his office last Thursday, Lt. Yarbrough said the APD concentrated most of its investigation work on the fight and the gangs last week. “When this fight happened, we had numerous people call us and help us out. The public has been very cooperative,” he said. Chief Ben Sumner said he thanked the public for their help in the investigation. He encouraged people with infor mation about the fight and gang activity to give their information to the police. “Our officers can’t be everywhere at once,” the chief said. “Citizens can be of tremendous assistance to us in cases just like they. They can give us information we need to go gather evidence, secure war rants and make arrests.” Lt. Yarbrough said public assistance was the key to two arrests. Ms. Wilson and Ms. Foster were both arrested in Cordele as they attempted to board a bus to Jacksonville, FL. Lt. Yarbrough said a citizen tip put police on the women’s trail and so they were caught before they could leave the state. Alltel DSL.
