Dr. Keesee studied art at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he painted with Maurice Bonds, Milton Hull and others. After graduat ing he worked in Atlanta in graphic art and design. There he attended classes at the High Museum of Art with Joel Reeves. He entered the University of Georgia and obtained a Masters degree in fine art where he studied paint ing with Lamar Dodd, Howard Thomas and Joseph Swartz. In 1972 he received a Ph.D. in art history. Dr. Keesee taught art at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Keesee’s painting is fig urative and usually reflects some aspects of the southern culture and environment, Favorite themes are gospel Christmas pageant in Ocilla Entry deadline nears for Miss Spirit of Christmas Pageant The 8th Annual Miss Spirit of Christmas Pageant will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22 in the old elementary school auditorium in Ocilla. Contestants are sought for the following age divisions: Baby Miss, 6-23 months; Tiny Miss, 2-3 years; Little Miss, 4- 6 years; Petite Miss, 7-9 years; Pre-Teen, 10-12 years; Teen, 13-16 years; and Miss, 17-24 years. All contestants will compete in pageant dress only. Each age division must have at least five contestants and no more than 20. The entry fee is $35 and optional events, including Best Dress, Best Smile and Best Hair, are $10 each or $20 for all three. Winners in each age divi sion will receive a crown, monogrammed banner, silver tray, flowers and a gift bag. Each contestant also needs to bring a small gift for a man or woman who is in the nursing home. This will be placed under the Christmas tree as the contestants enter the stage dur ing the competitions. One Christmas Angel Queen will also be crowned. This is a people’s choice award, where contestants are asked to collect votes, sold for $1 each. The Christmas Angel will receive a grand prize pack age, which will include a 2008 Holiday Barbie, TV/DVD combo and much more. To qualify, the contestant must collect a minimum of $50. Entry deadline is Thursday, November 20; pageant practice will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the auditorium. He has also painted canoe ing and rafting on Georgia Rivers, rabbit hunting on southern fields and fox hunting in Virginia. He paints today at his studio in Tifton and teaches a group class of painters who meet each Wednesday. The collection in the main library is that of Ms. Mary Ann Wilson. Ms. Wilson came to Ashbum several years ago after living in Phoenix, Arizona for many years. She has on display a collection of travel memora bilia. Ms. Wilson has traveled extensively throughout the world. These exhibits are proudly sponsored by the Turner County Arts Council. ALEC GUESS won Grand Champion Barrow- Overall at the Ga.
