FFA officers attend training in Tifton The officers of the Turner County Middle School FFA Chapter were part of the over one-hundred twenty chapter officers representing sixteen FFA chapters from across the southern part of Georgia that attended the 2008 South Region Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference. The 2008 South Region COLT conference was held on August 28 at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center. This year’s COLT theme was “Recipe for Success.” Chapter officers were challenged to understand their role as leaders in their chapters and communities. Box 98, Lakeland, GA 31635 229482-2116 / www.zenithauctions.com Thank You Santa for helping with our Shop Local Campaign Give Thanks - Always? Recorded in the midst of many other instructions in the Bible, we find these words: “Be joyful always; pray con tinually; give thanks in all cir cumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (I Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV). Like many other places in the Scriptures, these directives cut contrary to the usual human way of dealing with life. It is essential that we face life from a Godly perspective and not merely with a human approach if we intend to experience life in the fullness that God desires for us to. With so many concerns and uncertainties in our modern world, the concept of continual joy and thankfulness is laugh able. Yet we are instructed as followers of Christ to have both joyfulness and thankful ness constantly evident in our lives. How can this be? We must remember that there can be no real lasting joy or genuine ongoing thankful ness apart from a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. As we by faith commit our lives to Him, and then strive to grow in a deeper relationship with Him as we face the circumstances of life, we will begin to understand life from a new and more ful filling point of view. It is true that even the most Inspiration devoted ones to God will not always be happy about every thing in their lives, yet they can have joy at all times. Happiness has to do with unstable outward circum stances, while joy has to do with the inward work and pres ence of God in our lives. Even though many might be unhappy because of the chaotic economic happenings in the financial world of our day, they can still have the genuine joy of the Lord. In like manner, there are often things that come our way that we are not glad about, yet we can still give thanks to God. No matter how difficult life might become, there is always some thing to be thankful for. We would all do well to focus more on the positive things that God has done for us and less on the negative things that life has sent our way. So how can we maintain joy and exercise thankfulness? The answer lies largely in what Paul placed between these two ideas in I Thessalonians 5: ongoing prayer. The more that we seek God, the more able we become to live joyful lives. The more we seek Him the more fully the Holy Spirit will control our lives and produce His fruit within us--a component of which is joy (Galatians 5:22). The more that we employ con tinual prayer, the more aware we become of the many things for which we should be thank ful-regardless of our present circumstances. A quick look at the news around the world and a brief evaluation of some of the things in our personal lives might push both joyfulness and thankfulness right out of sight. But if we will sincerely turn to God in prayer and give Him all the things that we can not handle ourselves, we will better understand true and last ing joy that causes us to have hearts that are deeply thankful. There is no denying that our world is becoming increas ingly disappointing, but that does not have to control our lives. Yes, you can have a joy ful and thankful life. Turn to God in faith filled prayer and allow Him to take charge of your life.
