UDC holds quarterly meeting in Fitzgerald
The Ben Hill Chapter
#1137 United Daughters of the
Confederacy had their
Christmas luncheon at the
beautiful Christmas decorated
home of Don and Eulalie
Woeltjen in Fitzgerald on Dec.
10 at noon.
Before the meal a short
business meeting was held by
president Myrtle Harper.
There were two invitations
for the chapter members. One
to a tea to honor Mrs. Homer
(Jane) Durden III at the
Cannon Ball House on Dec. 14
by the Georgia Division United
Daughters of the Confederacy
and the Georgia Division
President Mrs. John D.
Kennedy, Jr. Jane is a General
UDC officer. Also, an invita
tion was issued to a grave
marker ceremony at the
Historic Linwood Cemetery in
Columbus, Georgia for Pvt.
John Robb, a Confederate
Soldier.
A delicious meal was
enjoyed by those that attended.
There were 10 that were pre
sent. After the meal we went
into the den where Mr. and
Mrs. Woeltjen had the pro
gram.
Don Woeltjen read the
Christmas story from the book
of Luke which is the only book
that has the whole Christmas
Story.
Eulalie Woeltjen read the
history of how Mrs. Helen
Steiner Rice became well
known for her poems. She read
a poem by Mrs. Rice entitled
“What Christmas Means To
Me”. Then she sang the song
“It Looks A Lot Like
Christmas” in her beautiful
voice. We received a special
blessing in hearing the
Christmas Story, poem and the
beautiful song.
The next meeting will be
March 11, 2009 at the beautiful
home of Barbara Billingsley in
Fitzgerald.
The members attending the
luncheon were: President
Myrtle Harper, Dale Cowart,
Barbara Billingsly, Bernice
Hageman, Martha McKnight,
Eulalie Woeltjen and Imogene
Wells. All our sick and shut-ins
were remembered. It was
reported that Faustine Sheffield
was in the hospital. Florence
Stepp and Evelyn Pankratz
were sick at home.
