Rebels squeak Patriots
by Brad Christan
The Turner County Rebels and Lady Rebels
only had one game on the docket last week.
Coming off second place finishes in the Ronalda
Pierce Holiday Hoopfest, the two teams found
themselves with a quick road trip to Rochelle to
take on Wilcox County.
The Lady Rebels were up first. They had de
feated the Lady Patriots 47-21 in Ashburn back
on December 12. This time, the Lady Rebels led
by nine at 24-15 at halftime. In the second half,
they stretched the lead out and were able to pull
away from an overmatched Lady Patriot squad
by winning 51-35. Taylor Daniels led the way
for the Lady Rebels as she scored a season high
20 points.
The nightcap featured a rematch between the
Rebels and Patriots. The Rebels took a hard
fought victory 59-47 back in December and this
too would be an intense game. The Rebels
trailed by 10 early but managed to cut the lead
to 30-24 at the half.
Tension between the Rebel coaches and the
officials reached a boiling point late in the sec-

With the game being back and forth through
out much of the second half, the Rebels and Pa
triots actually found themselves knotted up at
50 with four seconds left. An inbounds pass
from DeAndre Pierce to Tamarrion Terry the
length of the court led to a Patriot foul. Terry
sank the first free throw with 1.4 seconds left
and the Rebels escaped Rochelle with a 51-50
victory.
Terry finished with 12 points and 16 re
bounds while Shaq Baldwin also scored in dou
ble figures with 11 points.
This week, both the Rebels (11-2) and Lady
Rebels (12-1) will have a full slate. They will be
on the road to Statenville to take on Echols
County on Tuesday before returning home to
take on Lanier County on Friday. They close out
the week with a trip to Edison on Saturday night
to take on Calhoun County. Tip off for all three
games will be at 6 p.m.
