Coming off second place finishes in the Ronalda Pierce Holiday Hoopfest, the two teams found themselves with a quick road trip to Rochelle to take on Wilcox County. The Lady Rebels were up first. They had de feated the Lady Patriots 47-21 in Ashburn back on December 12. This time, the Lady Rebels led by nine at 24-15 at halftime. In the second half, they stretched the lead out and were able to pull away from an overmatched Lady Patriot squad by winning 51-35. Taylor Daniels led the way for the Lady Rebels as she scored a season high 20 points. The nightcap featured a rematch between the Rebels and Patriots. The Rebels took a hard fought victory 59-47 back in December and this too would be an intense game. The Rebels trailed by 10 early but managed to cut the lead to 30-24 at the half. Tension between the Rebel coaches and the officials reached a boiling point late in the sec- Rebs rock Suwanee; by Jason Minshew On Dec. 30-31 st, the Turner County High Wrestling team traveled to Suwanee Georgia to participate in the Shane’s Rib Shack Hook’em Holiday Clas sic. Boy did the team and and a couple of seniors end 2014 on a bang. There were about 30 teams there competing, Turner being the only single A team. Turner Co. as a team finished in 10th place. Wesley Poke ond quarter that led to a technical foul on Rebel head coach Dr. Tyrone Kellogg. The Rebels ac tually played the second half under protest. With the game being back and forth through out much of the second half, the Rebels and Pa triots actually found themselves knotted up at 50 with four seconds left. An inbounds pass from DeAndre Pierce to Tamarrion Terry the length of the court led to a Patriot foul. Terry sank the first free throw with 1.4 seconds left and the Rebels escaped Rochelle with a 51-50 victory. Terry finished with 12 points and 16 re bounds while Shaq Baldwin also scored in dou ble figures with 11 points. This week, both the Rebels (11-2) and Lady Rebels (12-1) will have a full slate. They will be on the road to Statenville to take on Echols County on Tuesday before returning home to take on Lanier County on Friday. They close out the week with a trip to Edison on Saturday night to take on Calhoun County. Tip off for all three games will be at 6 p.m. Duals this weekend champions. The Rebels wrestling is hoping to carry that momentum into this week end’s Area Duals to be held in Ashburn Saturday. It will be an exciting day as area single A teams will complete for a chance to qualify for State Duals. Coach Alfau is pushing his team to continue their drive to top five, preferably top three as a team this year. finished 6th for the 145 lb. class. The highlight for Turner County were seniors Tanner Crawford and Malik Holley. In a 32 man bracket, each won their weight classes, 138 and 160, respective. Tanner and Malik were Champions.
