Page 6 - The Wiregrass Farmer, January 6,2016 Rebels and Lady Rebels enter 2016 playing well by Brad Christian The Turner County Rebels and Lady Rebels wrapped up play in the Ronalda Pierce Holiday Hoopfest last Tuesday night at the Civic Center. The Rebels were up first as they were playing in the third place game. They took on the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes. Fitzgerald came in with only one loss on the young season. The Rebels held a slim 34-32 lead at half time and it stayed tight throughout the rest of the game. But the Rebels never let up and were able to take the vic tory 70-64 to take third place overall in the tournament. Ta- morrion Terry led the way with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Jarvis Hall also had a strong game as he scored a season high 20 points. The Lady Rebels were up next in the championship game against undefeated Fitzgerald. It was an intense game from the opening tip and remained that way throughout the game. The Lady Canes led by one at 30-29 at the half and neither team was able to build a com fortable lead in the second half. But the Lady Rebels, on the strength of nine fourth quarter points by senior Mylashia Yancey, pulled away for the 58-52 victory to take the tro phy. Yancey led the way with 29 points while Brishuana Barnes also had a strong game with 16 points. After taking a few days off to enjoy the new year, both teams were back in action Sat urday night in a home region game against Wilcox County. In the girls game, it was all Lady Rebels. They led by 15 over the neighbors from Rochelle at the half and contin ued to pour it on in the second half on the way to a comfort able 53-26 region victory. Through twelve games, the Lady Rebels have established themselves as one of the teams to beat in the state in Class A. Yancey finished with a game high 22 points while Xariyah Office also finished in double figures with 12 points. In the nightcap, the Rebels were hoping to avenge an early season loss to the Patriots. They did exactly that. They only led 33-23 at halftime but they really managed to open it up in the second half over a Pa triots team that doesn’t have a lot of depth. Outscoring the Patriots 53-25 in the second half, the Rebels rolled to an easy 85-48 victory. Senior Ced Leggett finished with a game high 18 points (13 in the sec ond half). Also scoring in dou ble figures for the home team was Terry with 13 points and Hah with 12 points. The Rebels (7-5 overall) and Lady Rebels (12-0 overall) will have two games this weekend as they travel to Lakeland Friday night to take on Lanier County before com ing back home Saturday night for a non region game against Calhoun County. The Rebs took a third place in the Holiday Hoopfest defeating the Wilcox Patriots. Legal Notices Deadline is NOON Monday. Holiday deadlines will be an nounced well ahead of time....
