Bills to
Court
If you have a past due garbage
bill, of less than $100, you have
time to pay it off before the
County Commission hands the
bill over to Magistrate Court.
Anything over $100 is going to the
small claims court for a hearing before
Judge Blake Christian.
A split County Commission voted to
let County Clerk Latrice Wilson call
those with bills under $100. Over $100
automatically goes to court.
Judge Christian is tacking $98 per case
to the bill.
Allen Weaver and Joe Burgess voted
against the motion. Commissioners Dana
Whiddon, Brad Calhoun and Nick Den
ham voted for it.
“How long have we been trying to get
this money?” Mr. Weaver asked.
Commission Chairman Brad Calhoun
said some bills are at least 25 years old,
dating back to almost when the old
garbage collection program started.
THANK YOU VETERANS
Above, the Turner County High School JROTC hosted their annual Veteran’s Day celebration at the

Property re-eval
underway now
Your Turner County real estate
is going to be examined in per
son and at your property very
soon.
The long overdue property re-evalua-
tion in Turner County is underway.
A private company is now making the
rounds of every property in the County,
looking at all of it. The company has 12
employees in marked vehicles. Each em
ployee also has an ID badge.
Sheriff Andy Hester said he has a de
scription of the vehicles and who the em
ployees are. He expects law enforcement
to get plenty of (See RE . EVAL Page 2 )
Ashburn elections likely set for Municipal Courthouse
You think you are going over our
heads and we pay you. You won’t work
with the County if you don’t do what we
say. Commissioner Joe Burgess
The Board of Elections
still has to rule, but it
appears elections that
cover the City of Ash
burn will now be held in
the City’s municipal
courthouse downtown.
The Elections Board had a
meeting and public hearing
Tuesday morning after the
paper’s deadline. The Board
planned to decide where to
move the Ashburn voting
precinct.
For years, elections were
held at the Civic Center. Con
struction at the school means
that location cannot be used for
the 2024 election cycle.
Elections Superintendent
Jan Winter wanted to move the
precinct to the Ag Building
next to the airport. A majority
of the Ashburn City Council
objected. Commissioners also
objected.
Ms. Winter said she wanted
to keep voters happy while
making sure the election met
all the legal requirements.
Keeping the voters, workers
and the machines safe must be
a priority, she said.
She said she would look at
the Municipal Courthouse to
see if it would work.
“We will make the modifi
cations to make it work,” said
Ashburn City Manager Daryl
Hall.
THE COURTHOUSE
Mr. Hall said the City is
willing to let the municipal
courthouse be used as the
polling location.
“The Council wants the
election to be held in the City
of Ashburn,” he said.
Ms. Winter said she has
concerns about that building.

Jeremy Poole with an al
bino buck. Such deer are
incredibly rare. They are
legal game in Georgia.
Albino buck killed here
Jeremy Poole joined a very elite
deer hunting club last week
when he killed an 8 point white
deer in Turner County.
Albino deer are very rare. Only 2
counties, one is Turner, in Georgia have
ever produced true albinos.
Jack Williford also killed an albino
deer here some years ago.
An albino is marked by a complete
lack of color in the hair, all white. The
hooves and eyes are also pink because
they lack color. The pink comes from
blood shading the hooves and eyes
Jeremy’s deer had pink hooves and a
pink nose.
If the deer has any color, such as a
black nose, hooves and brown hair, it is a
piebald. A piebald deer has white hair
across its body beyond just the belly.
Other piebald deer are seen and killed
here and in other counties.
The top of the head of Jeremy’s deer
is brown, which can explained by the
buck rubbing the velvet off his antlers and
later making scrapes on trees. Scrapes are
how a buck marks his territory.
Some albino bucks will also have
brown or dark spots around the scent
glands ob their legs. This is because the
secretions attract and hold dirt.
Albino deer are legal to hunt in Geor
gia.
Mr. Poole said he will get the deer
mounted, but he was not sure if he’d get
a full-body mount or just a shoulder
mount.

Taxation is theft, purely and simply even though it is theft on a grand and colossal scale which no acknowledged criminals could hope to match.
It is a compulsory seizure of the property of the State's inhabitants, or subjects. Murray N. Rothbard
