Dr. Megow will be re sponsible for develop ing TRMC’s new internal medicine and OB/GYN residency pro grams. “We are excited to have Dr. Megow on board,” said Christopher Dorman, Presi dent/CEO of TRMC and Southwell. “Tift Regional will be launching residency train ing programs in 2026, and Dr. Megow will be instrumental in getting these initiatives off the ground and providing adminis trative guidance and over sight.” Dr. Megow earned her med ical degree from the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) in Augusta and followed with pe diatric residency training at MCG. She also holds an MBA from UMass in Amherst, Mas sachusetts. With more than 33 years of clinical experience, Dr. Megow started her career as a practicing pediatrician in Val dosta. She later assumed vari ous medical staff leadership and administrative positions with South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta and HCA in Kansas City, Missouri and Corpus Christi, Texas. “I am delighted to join the TRMC team,” said Dr. Megow. “These new internal medicine and OB/GYN resi dency programs will enhance quality of care and help strengthen physician recruit ment, retention, and patient coverage for the hospital.” A residency program is a full-time, supervised clinical training program for new doc tors, also known as residents, to develop the skills and expe rience to practice medicine in dependently. Dorman said the new resi dency programs support TRMC’s culture of continuous learning and have numerous other benefits for the hospital and community. “Residency programs will bring highly trained physicians into our community, increasing the availability of specialized care in underserved rural areas, while expanding access,” Dor man said. “Our patients can re ceive more comprehensive services locally, reducing transportation burdens and as sociated costs from having to travel outside of our communi- Kimberly Megow ties for healthcare.” Dorman said that in addi tion to employing physicians, residency programs create other job opportunities, includ ing support staff, administra tors, and faculty. “All contributing to the local economy,” he said. Dr. Megow stated that rural areas frequently face physician shortages, especially in spe cialties like internal medicine and OB/GYN. Residency pro grams help mitigate this issue by producing new doctors who are prepared to serve rural pop ulations. Residents trained in rural settings are often better equipped to understand the unique challenges of the popu lation, from socioeconomic factors to specific health risks, fostering more culturally com petent care. Dr. Megow added that resi dency program graduates tend to settle near their former train ing institutions or in adjacent areas. “Residency program gradu ates who practice near their training ground have estab lished knowledge and prag matic use of local and regional healthcare resources,” she said. “With residents working closely with attending physi cians and patients, there's an opportunity for stronger conti nuity of care, as residents be come integrated into the local healthcare fabric. In addition to the residency training programs, TRMC an nounced it will work with PCOM in Moultrie to provide clinical rotations for medical students. “TRMC already has clinical rotations established for stu dents from other medical schools, but having this new, formalized affiliation is impor tant because of PCOM’s close proximity as well as their ded ication to enhancing healthcare in South Georgia,” said Dor man. “It is a mutually benefi cial community partnership.” Visit www.MySouthwell. com for more information on TRMC. gia. The award winner receives registration and hotel accom modations to attend the South ern Peanut Growers Conference, July 2025, at Panama City Beach, Florida, and a sign to display at his or her farm.
