It is said that hot coffee is an un
failing barometer, if you allow a
lump of sugar lo drop lo the bottom
of the cup and watch the air bubles
arise without disturbing the coffee.
If the bubbles collect in the middle
of the cup the weather will bo fine;
if they mlhero to the cup forming a
ring, it will either rain or snow; and
if ibe bubbles spacrate without as
suming any fixed position, change
able weather may bo expected.
Reports show a greatly increased
death rate from throat and lung

advise the use of One Minute Cough

the only harmless remedy that gives
immediate results. Children like it.

“This reply nearly bowled the

McKinley took out her watch which
contains a portrait of the President.
She held it out and said coaxingly:
“ ‘Leonora you cannot tell me of
whom this is a picture?’
“Leonoia drew near and scanned
the open watch. A bright look
swept over her face.
“ ‘Oh, yes’rn, I know who it is!’
“ ‘Well who is it, Leonora?’
“ ‘It’s Dewey.’

A 8T0IIY OF VICTORIA’S FATHER-
The father of Queen Victoria, the
Duke of Kent, had no objections to
dissenters, and, in fact cultivated in
timate relations with a well-known
Congregational minister, Dr. Strou-
gliton, whom he knew botli In Wind
sor and Kensington. The doctor
lent the embarrassed Duke some
raonev, but refused many invitations
to dine at Kensington Palace. At
length Victoia’s fattier pressed for
his reason, and the doctor explalued
that he would not accept as he oould
not entertain jn return. “Oh,” said
the Duke “you can easily do that. I
like boiled leg of mutton and trim
mings better than anything, but can*
not olten get it. Taking the hint
the doctor had a fine leg of mutton
duly prepared, and the Duke thor
oughly enjoyed bis dinner. The
warm friendship cemented by the leg
of mutton continued unimpaired un-
till the Duke’s death, and one of the
first acts of tbe Queen on coming to
the throne was to repay the doctor’s
loan, expressing high appreciation
for his considerate kindness.
