SIDELIGHTS ON CAMPAIGN
Editor Post-Search Light:—
I am glacl to see from reports all over Georgia that Pottle in
the lead for Governor. He is the man that turned Dorsey up, and
exposed his record to the people of Georgia. Dorsey belonged to a
firm of lawyers that were hired by the L. &. N. Railcoad to paral
lel! the State Road, waich would destroy the State Road and would
couse the state to raise the taxes on every foot of land in Georgia,
as the State gets nearly a half million dollars a year rent for this
Railroad, and if the Governor allows the L. & N. Railroad to run
another railroad along side of our state road it will be absolutely
worthless. We couldn’t rent it for scarcely anything, and that
half million dollars rent will have to be levied on our farms and
other property, or do away with all the free schools in the State.
Before you cast a vote tor Dorsey, you had better ask yourself the
Question! “Am I willing to help destroy my own State Road, by
voting for a paid attorney of the L. & N. Railroad, and thereby
increase the taxes on my own farm and stock.” God knows, taxes
are already high enough. You had better go slow about voting
for Dorsey.
A VOTER.
EXPOSED DORSEY
The good news comes from all over Georgia that Pottle is in
the lead. Every county in the Circuit where he was Solicitor for
34 years have lined up strong for him. He has exposed Dorsey’s
record in nearly every county in Georgia, and the people every
where are thanking him, and dropping Dorsey like a “Hot Brick”.
Pottle challenged Dorsey to meet him in his home town, Atlanta,
where he would bring the charges against him face to face. He
begged to be excused.
HON. JOSEPH E. POTTLE
Candidate For Governor Of Georgia
Vote For Him
POTTLE AN IDEAL OFFICER
Pottle would make a splendid Governor. He is young, -.igoi
ous, and able, and would be an honor to Georgia. He was for ll
years Solicitor General, 10 years without opposition. He is again/
the sale of the State Road. He believes that Georgia ought to g
a great deal more rent for our road than she now gets, and therebl
lower Taxes. If Georgia should, by accident, happen to the calan
ity of electing Dorsey Governor, and he sign a bill to let the L.,
N. Railroad kill our State road, and the state lose the half millioJ
dollars rent, and taxes thereby raised, and the Boll Weevil m to]
of ttiat, there will be awful times in Georgia. Think of that befo
you put in a vote for Dorsey.
A GOOD DAY’S WORK
It is to the interest of every white man in Decatur county tJ
lay down your work and go to the polls on September 12th, ana
vote and work tor that matchless Champion of the peoples rights]
Hon. Joe Pottle for Governor. It will be the best day’s work you
ever done. You owe him that much for turning up Hugh Dorsey
and exposing his Record. Remember, the 12th of September
the day to do the work. The sledge hammer blows that Pottle]
has been giving Dorsey has gotten him winded and got him on the)
run.
TORE IT UP
What the Hon. Joseph E. Pottle did not say about the Hon,
Hugh M. last night leaves very little to the imagination. He rip
ped up every plank in Dorsey’s platform and chopped it up into
kindling wood, after which the fragments were ground to sawdust,
He made a good impression on the audience and was warmly ap-
plauded at frequent intervals.—Albany Herald.
POTTLE HEADQUARTERS THOROUGHLY CONFIDENT
FAVORABLE REPORTS FROM ALL OVER THE STATE STRONGLY
INDICATE HIS NOMINATION.
Joseph E. Pottle’s campaign headquarters on yesterday
issued the following statement:
"Mr. Pottle, during the past week, has just completed a
successful tour of southwest Georgia, and everywhere he
has been met by large and enthusiastic crowds.
“The people of the state recognize that he has borne the
brunt of the fight in this campaign, and that it is on account
of his magnificent efforts that the wave of hysteria that
swept over the state for a while has been curbed. Out of
the discussions ol the issues by him in an intelligent manner,
the people have realized the real facts and their better judg
ment has overcome their first idea, based on a misapprehen
sion of the real issues of the campaign.
"Mr. Pottle has boldly expressed his charges as to the
influences behind the candidacy of Mr. Dorsey, and has
shown, beyond hope of contradiction, the trail leading from
the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company’s offices to
that of Mr. Dorsey. His acceptance of employment in be
half of the Louisville and Nashville railroad at a time when
he was legally disqualified from doing so and when it was
his duty to represent the state, in a matter affecting the
state's interests in the Western and Atlantic—the state’s
greatest asset disqualifies him from representing the state
as its chief executive.
MANY COUNTIES CLAMOR TO HEAR POTTLE SPEAK
Joseph E. Pottle, who has just completed a tour of
some of the southwest Georgia counties, where he shook
hands with his numerous supporters and made several
of the best speeches of his campaign, was in his head
quarters at the Kimball house last night, and leaves
early this morning for Milledgeville, where he will spend
the day with his family.
Mr. Pottle will leave Milledgeville Monday morning
for Washington county, where he will speak twice; in
the morning at Sandersville and in the afternoon at
Davisboro. His many friends in that county have assur-
- ed him that the county would swing into the Pottle col
umn if he could address them.
Mr. Pottle’s campaign headquarters are receiving
by mail invitations to address the voters of various
counties throughout the state, which he has so far been
unable to visit. Many petitions, signed bv the leading
citizens of the sections trom which they come, are being
received, as well as urgent invitations by wire. It is a
source of regret to him that it will be impossible to ac
cept these numerous invitations, owing to the shortness
of the time remaining before the primary on Sept. 12.
On Tuesday, Mr. Pottle will make two speeches in
Berrien county, speaking in the morning at Nashville
and in the atternoon at Adel.
“His base appeal to prejudice and passion has been seen
to be inconsistent with his former record which shows re
peated appeals for clemency when no evidence, other than
that heard by the jury was presented in numerous cases.
His mere denial will not overcome these public records.
“In addition to that, Mr. Pottle is the only candidate
who has paid a tribute to Woodrow Wilson, the nominee of
the national Democratic party, whom Thomas E. Watson is
now assailing in his efforts to elect a. Republican candidate.
As Mr. Pottle has so well shown, it seems inconceivable that
the Democrats of Georgia will allow Watson, who is seeking
to elect the Republican nominee of the National Republican
party, to name the Democratic nominee of the state of
Georgia.
“From all over Georgia come reports that Mr. Pottle s j
efforts on these issues are being appreciated. These reports
are confirmed to no particular locality, but naturally he is
stronger in the sections where he has been able to -P eali
and where he is well known. The outlook of today ev
ceedingly gratifying, and the combined strength of th- sout
Georgia support, with that which he will receive in m lddle
Georgia and numerous mountain counties, will send him
the convention with at least seventy counties. We Teel co
fident of his nomination, and our friends over the state F re
diet the adequate reward which he so richly deserves
